Vegan episode of Top Chef Masters!!!

I love Top Chef, despite all the grossness that's usually in every episode. So I was very excited when they found out that they'd be having to cook lunch for Zooey Deschanel and her family and friends.  I highly recommend this episode to everyone. It's super exciting, I think. The chefs were kind of clueless, which was sad. I think that anyone here could have done a better job.  But really, it was great. Watch it!!!  :D

Next season (Las Vegas?) they're supposed to have Natalie Portman as a guest judge, so there will definitely be a vegan episode then, too!

Is this the show where the guy from Boulder, CO just won? I just met his mom, she's awesome & a vegetarian chef herself. I don't have tv and was just trying to figure out who her son was.

I KNOW! That's what I said too, when he chose the Rice Dream. And then one of the diners was like, this would have been better with coconut milk ice cream. totes. we know where it's at.

I don't know where the guy who won this episode is from. That's awesome that she's a veg chef though!

The looks on their faces were hilarious.  You would have thought the judges were asking them to cook live bugs or something. Especially Art Smith. take away his butter and fried chicken and hes clueless. I cant believe they did'nt axe him. hes been hanging on by a thread. Opra is prob paying off the judges. wasnt zooey a cutie. she was a great representative of a vegan who knows her food.  not some alien vegan weirdo  that mas media like to portray.

I'm sooo addicted to this show  :)  I was really happy to see a vegan episode, even though most of the chefs didn't seem psyched.  I actually had quinoa pasta for the first time last night, so it was cool that Michael (the guy who won the challenge) used it in his dish.  Art's dessert left a lot to be desired...can't believe he bought that ice cream!  Zooey read my mind about the coconut milk kind being waaaaaaaaay better.

i've watched this show a few times, but i don't follow it with any regularity mainly because i just can't stomach seeing all of the flesh that they cook with.  i did watch this episode online, though, thanks to a heads-up from VeganDad.

for anyone who missed it, it's online here...

i couldn't believe the chefs, either.  i mean, there are fabulous vegan restaurants in bigger cities and these "Top Chefs" seemed clueless!  a few of the judges' comments were a little annoying... "a symphony of beige"and "...God only *knows* what they eat!"  seriously?!  how many of you mainly only eat beige food?  i guess they're the typical clueless omnivores expecting that vegans just eat brown rice, lentils, and granola, but i would have expected a little more open-mindedness with "expert" judges. meh.

if it's true about natalie portman being a guest judge next season, i'll definitely have to look out for that episode.

Thanks for the link.

Zooey fed into the negative vegan stereotype by saying that she was especially happy the chefs cooked for her because she usually only gets to eat raw vegetables.  whatevs.  She obviously doesn't frequent vegweb.

I think Zooey meant that she only got to eat raw veggies at social gatherings. I think we've all been there.

Seriously?  Can you get any "beiger" than chicken?  I agree with everyone that almost any vegwebber could've been more creative.  :P

Maybe.  In SoCal there are a plethora of vegan restaurants and every gathering I've been to here has had something either outrightly vegan or veganizable.  It's a perk of the locale.
