I love reggae! Living in Kauai that was the primary music people listened to, and pretty much the main thing to see live....it was a really cool scene because there were all these outdoor shows and really cool bands, but there wouldn't be a ton of people (way less than if it were on the mainland), so the shows would all be really cool! Some bands/guys I love, beyond the basics, are Katchafire, Midnite, Alpha Blondy, and Jr. Gong....just to name a few!

Oh, and the mixture of reggae,pop and hawaiian is often played on local stations and many people 'lovingly' refer to this as "Jawaiian" which I always find cute :)

I love ska! In high school I used to play with a ska band. I'm attempting to start one to play for fun on the weekends while I'm in school. (I'm a trombone player). I just went and saw mustard plug in january in chicago. There's not much ska in Baltimore (where I go to school) so I have to save all my ska shows for the breaks. But summer is coming and I plan on seeing so many shows!

Not so much any 3rd wave ska... but do enjoy the old Trojan, Treasure Isle, etc. material. Blue Beat, old rocksteady, whatnot. And bits of the UK 2nd wave ska.

can you recomend some ska groups to check out? and what exactly is rocksteady? I do like some reggae. I used to play trumpet so I like instrumental music and I love all rock just not heavy metal.

i have reggae days at my house. I pull out the vinyls and clean house or do what ever. I had a good friend in a ska band, but things happen... they were good i enjoyed all of it. I am just not up to date/informed on shiz. (should be, though).

Thanks for the video. I watched it with my sister and she just so happens to love rocksteady. For some reason I thought it was like rockabilly. Now I know the difference.
