OK, so what book would you like to live in?

Last week I asked what film you'd like to live in. Several people mentioned they'd prefer the original book to the movie version, which is so often the case. So what book would you like to inhabit for a bit?
I'd choose The Secret Garden first. And The Wind in the Willows. Mole and I have a lot in common!
For adult books, I wouldn't mind hanging out in a few biographies and autobiographies I know of. Not as the main character, but as a friend. Just sort of there.
I read both the Boxcar and Trolley car books, loved them!! I'm gonna look them up and see if I can find them pretty cheap.

Haha. This reminded me that I kept a small spot on my bookshelf for some of my kiddie books when I cleaned them out to give away several years ago. And I found books 1,2,3 and 36 of the Boxcar Children books. I am so going to treat myself with a re-read today. This is totally going to lead into me re-reading my collection of Nancy Drew books. Or even my Bobbsey Twins books. :D Oh dear.
omg, I was just coming to this thread to ask how many people loved reading Nancy Drew books!!!! I have read them all, I think, but unfortunately don't have them anymore.

Have y'all ever played the computer games? I love love love them. My little sister and I played them together as they came out well into my college years. In fact, I'm several games behind! Must get the new ones! They're so fun.
So yes, Nancy Drew or Anne of Green Gables. Also, Bill Bryson's "Neither Here Nor There: Travels in Europe," though that is non-fiction, so I don't know if it counts.
I'm gonna have to find the nancy drew computer games. I have the csi game and it is hard!!

The Nancy Drew games are just challenging enough. They don't hand hold you. I'm seriously gonna buy one, and I love them so much that I'm not ashamed to admit this at age 22.

I haven't really thought of a book I'd like to live in. Maybe the end of Atlas Shrugged. A cook book, so I could just eat.

I'm not sure about books, as I don't read a whole lot of them apart from textbooks. It would be either kiddish stuff (Harry Potter) or sad sad stuff. So no books!
But a fictional universe I'd like to live in - one where Superman exists! That would be awesome.
(but no super villains! not cool.)
i am baffled by everyone who wants to live in harry potter. i love the stories, but dear god if i had to deal with the stress of voldemort maybe killing me or my friends i would probably die or be paralyzed or something.
Any of the Pippi Longstocking books, if I can be a kid again. I loved her when I was a kid.
And "Eight Cousins" by L. M. Alcott. I always wanted a rich relative to show up, cover me with presents, and tell my parents they weren't raising me right! (Which they weren't.)
It took me a long time, fed as I was on 19th century kid's classics, to realise that real life doctors Don't send you to the mountains or to Europe for your health. bummer.

Lord of the Flies!!!??? That is like saying you want to be in the story "Deliverance"!!!
That was a very violent book. Did you read the second half of it. It was a few years back but I rememember it being pretty violent, not a place I would want to be!!!
For me it is a non-fiction book that I can read over and over and over again.

About a woman and her husband who spend a year in the Alaskan Wilderness. That is my dream. More than anything I would love to live in Wiseman, Alaska, or someplace like that. I love the idea of living with no electricty or running water in the Alaskan bush with a Yukon Stove for both cooking and heat, making sourdough hotcakes with wild cranberry syrup that I picked myself from the tundra as a topping. Of course I would have to eat meat, but it would be meat that I hunted and dressed myself, and then one animal would last a whole year. I even starting writing my own (fictional) story about it (but so far I am still a vegetarian in it).

I would so second this! Loved Pippi! And even though I read Eight Cousins (and the sequel) when I was already older, I'd still love an Uncle Alec who would send me off to the mountains in Maine for some fresh air. Haha. I also found it funny that the Cousin Mac tries a vegetarian diet in the second book.
I also have the same feelings about the Harry Potter books. I love the books and they were one of the first that came to mind when I came to this thread, but then I remembered Voldemort and thought "No way!". I'd want to live in the Epilogue of the 7th book though when it is all safe. Haha.
I would like to be a visitor in the Terry Pratchett Discworld books, but I don't know if I would like to live there. I might want to live in The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents. Such a cute book :)

I love this! I am not exactly the Alaskan wilderness person, but I love the idea of a simpler yet hard working life say 1800's out west or something like that, anyone ever read "love Comes Softly", I would love to live in that book.
Huckleberry Finn, or even better, Roughing It by Mark Twain
Twain got his first newspaper job by walking into the office after the reporter was shot in the street (wild west situation), sitting down, and starting to type. When the editor asked him what he was doing he said he was the guy's replacement; the editor let him stay.
Huckleberry Finn is the Great American Novel of all-time, but Roughing It is one of the greatest Biographies of all time (if you believe half the crazy stuff that Twain is telling you of course - it's all highly suspect ;-)

As a child I remember wanting to live with Heidi on the mountain. I still want to live there but now i'm more like the grandpa :P
Pretty much though most of the books I've read there's been a time or place in them where I would have liked to jump in.
