NVR - What are you reading right now? (Fiction or non-fiction)

I'm reading 'Raising Vegan Children in a Non-vegan World' by Erin Pavlina.
I'm curious what everyone else has their nose in at the moment!  :)

Just re-read for the umpteenth time The Story of a Soul, this time 2 different English translations. Very different. One from 1925 just after she'd been canonised, the other from 1958. Stylistic intentions vary widely depending on purpose, as all good translators know.

Am in a snit re:books (no new ones!) so am reading the Diary of Samuel Pepys for the Year of Our Lord 1669. I want to find the episode where his wife chases him around the house with a warming pan.

i'm halfway through What The Dead Know and it is SOOO good! i really only get the time to read it at work during my 30 minute lunch break so it's taking me some time, but it's really good.

its about this woman that gets in a car accident and drives away from the scene, and when police find her she says she's one of the missing Bethany sisters--two girls that went missing from a local mall years before.

H.P. Lovecraft fans!

Since I know there are a few out there, I thought I'd mention one I just picked up from the library:

Abdul Alhazred: Author of the Necronomicon by Donald Tyson

A fictional autobiography (and fictional translation of the Necronomicon) of the fictional author of the fictional tome used in H.P.Lovecraft's fiction.

How very "meta"! So far, so good...  ;)b

That sounds like it would be very interesting!  I might have to pick it up or order one day soon...
I'm so excited about graduating soon.  I hope I'll have a whole bunch more free time to catch up on alot of reading...

Howards End by E.M. Forster

I found this book a crashing disappointment. I agree with Katherine Mansfield's assessment of the book..."Forster never gets beyond warming the teapot. He's a fine hand at that.  Feel this teapot, is it not delightfully warm? But there ain't going to be no tea."

the great thing about it is that i'm like 2/3 - 3/4 done with the book and i still have no idea if the woman is telling the truth or if she's just some con-woman. very suspensful

Score!! I've been searching for a particular book by Bernard of Clairvaux and could only find it in audio format on Librivox. I want to read it, thank you--so having been unable to find it at the local Catholic bookstore (and it was painfully obvious that they had no real idea who St. Bernard the Great was, which is odd, given their niche in the market!) I found it on a website I bookmarked ages ago, free in text-only format. It's a very short book (36 A-4 sheets) so all I have to do is print it out.

(Nobody cares about this  but me...so I didn't put it on the "I scored a" thread...I thought I'd just bury it here and it will go unnoticed. Self-expression, that's what counts.)

Well, I'm glad you got it. I understand that feeling of obtaining that one piece of obscura that your mind can't resist. I hope the satisfaction lasts, and it scratches that particular part of your brain well.

Since everyone on this forum is most likely a reader, I was wondering what's the preference of everyone in terms of printed book and e-books.

I personally love the feel of a real book in my hands.  I know its controversial with the environment but I really can't bring myself to read a book when its on my computer the same as I read it in my hands.

What are your opinions?  Do you think e-books will take over the printed word?

God I hope not. The ability to read and write is our final defense against The Machine. Besides staring at the screen will blind you eventually. You can't take a computer to bed with a cup of tea.

I just started Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas for a class assignment. I haven't seen the movie, so I haven't got much an idea of what to expect thus far. I'm really excited to get into it, though.

I'm going back and forth between reading The China Study and Skinny Bitch....it amazes me how they are saying the same thing...only a whole lot different tone.  Whenever I start feeling bogged down in the China Study I switch over to Skinny Bitch.

I find uses for audio books....like when I can't read because I'm driving but holding a book in my hands is really comforting to me.  I exspecially like when it is mine and I can scribble notes in the margins.  Years later when I reread the book I wonder sometimes where my mind was.

I'm reading a comic by Art Speiglemen (sp) named "Maus".  Its fathers tale of his journey through the holocaust.  The people are portrayed by animals.  About half way through, its pretty interesting!
