The Kind Diet by Alicia Silverstone

I adore this book! Alicia Silverstone did a very good job explaining the health benefits of a vegan diet and shows the impact meat and dairy have on the earth and our bodies. Haven't tested any recipes but it is a very good read.

I'm waiting for this one from the library..I'm looking forward to reading it and trying some of the recipes.

This was a good read. It is very informative. I'd like to get all of the omnis I know to read it and see if they ever want to eat meat again. I too have not tried any of the recipes yet. She quite often uses ingredients that I don't find easily accessable :( boo.

i made the brownies once and idunno if i messed something up with measuring but it turned out to be a delicious & wonderfully textured chocolate cake.  sometime i'll try them again to double check.

It's heavily targeted at a female audience and a tad on the cutesy side, but well written!

It does seem heavily targeted towards women, but then again most cookbooks usually are. Or maybe it's just because it's written by a woman *shurgs* but I like it. I should browse through the recipe section and make something today...the brownies sound really good :)

Well what is the percentage of male vegans around the world? I want to broach the topic of male vegans, but I have no idea where to find information on that stuff and knowing some people here, I think I'd be setting myself up for something.....so I'll just leave it as I love the book.

I have the book and found it very informative.  I have never tried any of the recipes because most of the ingredients I cannot find locally.  :(

yeah, i really liked the book and would love to spend my days zenning out in the kitchen over some Mochi Waffles Drizzled with Lemon-Walnut-Rice Syrup and Radicchio Pizza with Truffle Oil, but unfortunately my broke ass cannot and/or should not be purchasing truffle oil.

I know what you mean. Plus, the stores where I live don't even have some of the ingredients. I've never seen some of the Japanese-esque ingredients, or lotus root, or things like that. I'd love to try them someday  (curse living in the middle of hicksville USA!)

I used to live in the middle of Hicksville, too!  Come to LA, the weather is so much nicer.  And you can get all the umeboshi plums and seaweed you want :)

Yeah, luckily St. Louis has pretty nice health food stores and farmers markets. But go online if your comfortable with ordering stuff from the internet. I really don't go out of my way to find stuff like kombucha and umeboshi plums, but but any and all organic veggies I can find, I can work with.

Actually, within a year or so I'm planning on moving to NYC, and you can probably get ANY sort of ingredients you want at all of their freaking amazing markets. LA would be nice, though...nice and warm, which would be a nice change!!
