Did you watch The Prisoner?

If so, did you understand it? It was weird and I don't think I could explain what I think I did understand.  :-\

the original, or the new one?

The original is about a big inflatable ball.

I haven't seen the new one yet.

Don't worry T. You are NOT alone. You don't have to be high to watch The Prisoner, but it helps. They didn't intend for it to make sense. It was "artistic" and psychedelic and very, very sixties. It's about fear of totalitarianism, the Bomb, etc. and social oppression as a controlling response. I have no idea what the tricycle symbolises but I think it's there to make you wonder. The whole thing was purposely obscure, plus the fact that it was filmed in Port Merion which was a rich artist/architect's personal "folly." It's not a town as such, it was just something he built on his own land. Back in those days five pounds sterling was a fortune.

Basically, it's about a UK spy who refuses to carry on because there's something rotten in Westminster. They allow him to resign but then he is whisked away to this "island" with other social outcasts. The idea is that someone behind the scenes is controlling all "free" Western governments. Who they are is never stated. The bubble that chases down those trying to escape is Rover. And NOTHING is what it appears.

I watched it when it first came out in the sixties, and I figured, "OK, I can't understand this because I'm a kid." A year or five ago they started showing it on the BBC since it came out on DVD and I watched again, this time with my hubby in tow who was an adult in the 60's and knows political history. Both mystified. Like I say, a little herbal help doesn't come amiss. It's very much independent "art" cinema. Each person brings their own interpretation to it. It's kind of like the "happenings" of the eighties.

The new one if there is one, couldn't possibly be worse, but I refuse to speculate how confuzing it may be.  ;D

I meant the new one with James Caviezel (Jesus in The Passion of the Christ) that showed on AMC this past week.

My DH saw the original but I haven't.  He says there are some key differences in the two, particularly in how it ends.
