The Biggest Loser

I told you I was going to do it.

It starts tonight, and I'm excited! It's probably my favorite show. It's always so inspiring, and sweet. I'm still mad about Helen winning last season. Well, not mad..but Tara should have won!

Yeah, she actually has 6 trainers. I watched her on Leno. I didn't find her annoying at all. She's had a rough time.

I was sad they sent Shay home.  I feel like she was working really hard.  I felt like it was time for Daniel to go.

I don't know who my favorite is now.  I like Danny a lot.  Actually, though, I think Liz is the onlly one I DON'T like.  She really annoys me.

Always late...sorry.
I'm glad to know Shay is still doing ok.  When we didn't see her update, we were worried that she may have dropped out and requested not to be filmed again.
I was super annoyed at Daniel's friend that he visited at the end - geez, I just wanted to shake him!

Personally, I'm a fan of Rebecca.  Sure she's whiny and voted for Shay, but she's still my fave.  I think Andy thinks she's hot.  I know I certainly do.

Yeah.  I like Rebecca, too.  She might have whined during a workout, but she brings it home during the challenges.

As I think you all know, I don't get to see the episodes until a week after they're aired.  So, I'm just watching last week's show now.  I'd like to retract what I said about liking Rudy.  That leaves Allen and my second will be Rebecca.

Definitely still going for Allen. I just like him, and he looks awesome.
Rebecca was never my favorite.
I love makeover shows! I wasn't quite as emotional this time...probably because I wasn't as attached to everyone. Rudy seems like a nice guy..he just....pushes buttons.

eta: HOWEVER, Rebecca looks amazing, and she might win the at home challenge!

I was sad that Rebecca went home.  She wasn't my favorite, but Liz really gets on my nerves.  I think Allen is my favorite too.  I really like Danny too though.  Amanda looks great, but she's never really "stood out" for me.  I agree with you about Rudy, AC.

Oh! Did you guys see/hear how Rebecca, and Daniel are dating!???! They were best friends on the show, and he had feelings, but I guess she didn't until after she was home. They are in love! hehehehe

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Allen. : (

I guess I want Danny to win, now.

HOWEVER, I'm pretty sure Danny and Liz are in love. Bummer for their families. ;)

You know they would vote Allen off at first opportunity because he was their strongest challenger.  I wouldn't be opposed to Danny winning.  I think my biggest gripe with him is that he was paired with Liz.  I like Tracey more than I like Liz, for a gauge.

Ugh. I was sad to see Allen go. I was SO SO SO ready for Liz to be voted off.

Haha. Yeah, I liked how Danny said they were "more than friends." And how when Danny was talking about his wife you could see Liz in the background looking awkward. I had a chuckle about it.

I am not really rooting for anyone. I guess Amanda the most because she is sort of the underdog. I am just ready to see how all the eliminated players look at the finale.

Did anyone else watch the special 'where are they now' show? It was really inspiring!  I'm glad that the majority of them have found ways to live a balanced life. What they do at the ranch is in no way feasible for every day life. Most have gained weight, but not too much. Colleen looked like she had gained a lot of it back, and Chris (from...the first season? who got really fit) gained it ALL back.

I've watched the show a few times, and to be honest I've always been extremely distburbed by what I saw. I don't mean to be a downer, but I felt like the producers of this show are exploiting contestants' emotional and physical health struggles. The NY Times just ran an article that put into words many of my own reservations and concerns about The Biggest Loser. For those who are interested in reading, it's available online at http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/25/business/media/25loser.html?_r=1&bl

Am I alone here? I think contestants are often so desperate to achieve weight loss, maintain a positive image for the cameras, and win the competition that they end up putting their lives at risk. Losing 15 pounds a week is NOT healthy... it's dangerous! And dehydrating oneself to drop extra pounds before weigh-ins is extremely reminiscent of the behavior of anorexics and bulimics. Why do the "experts" and producers on the show remain silent? And is the American public, by tuning into the show every week, supporting and condoning this sort of exploitation?  :(

These people are 250-500 pounds. Yes, it's probably not best to lose more than 5 pounds a week, and I'm sure that some unnecessary, extreme things happen to get ahead in the competition, but they are already living dangerous, obese lives. What I love so much about the show is how inspiring it is, and how it does get so many people moving, and changing habits. It's not always about losing 100 pounds. It's about getting started, and making a change. As I've said, I hate when they get so thin by the finale. It's definitely not healthy, and I know it's because of the competition, and money. However, usually everyone levels out, and finds a balance once they get back home. From what I've seen/heard, no one appears to be unhealthy once they return home (except the very few people who gain all the weight back).

If you watch the show regularly, you see how everything they learn changes their lives forever. It's not all about winning the money. All I can hope is that the producers/doctors/etc. closely monitor everyone, and that the negative, unhealthy behaviors are minimal.

Of course it's extreme behavior (who works out 8 hours every day?!), but it's the life change in the end that positively impacts so many people.

I don't get what's happening now.  Did no one go home?  According to wiki, no one went home and the recaps online are people talking about weight loss.  I'm flummoxed.

No one went home. We are voting who will be the third in the finale. You go to nbc.com to vote for Liz or Amanda. The show was all about their journeys at home, and running a marathon. Danny and Rudy are def. in finale.

I can't figure out where to vote!  Waa!  Because I REALLY want to vote against Liz.

eta:  I'm on the site, but I don't see a link to voting.

Oh! It might have only been for that night... : \ I did vote for Amanda, but I didn't end up hating Liz.

Yeah, I think the voting was just for 24 hours or so.

I am so ready for the finale though! I am still rooting for Amanda. I do not dislike Liz, but I just find her hard to understand in some ways. Also, I thought she and Danny both kind of ignored their spouses during the marathon, everyone else was so excited about their support, but half the time their spouses were not even running in the shot with them. That might have been planned by the camera guys or whatever, but I just thought it was a little thoughtless.

I was also REALLY happy to see that both Amanda and Liz lost only 16 pounds in two months, which is EXACTLY the healthy limit. In the normal world you are eating a healthy amount of calories and exercising just right when you lose 2 pounds per week, any more than that and it is not so good for your body. After hearing about people using diuretics and such to win, I thought this showed that those two are determined to lose weight the right way.

Yeah, I agree about the spouse thing. I already thought that they were a little too close, and then the fact that Danny was being all mushy with Liz with his spouse RIGHT THERE just sealed it. ESPECIALLY after his spouse voiced her insecurities, previously.

As I said, it's a shame that those unhealthy activities sometimes occur in the competition, but there's just no way these people aren't learning healthier lifestyles. They are learning the healthy way to lose weight, and that's what the take home is. It's pretty freaking obvious that 99.99% of them are not going to keep up 8 hours of working out per day, plus strict eating schedules.
