I'm a newbie here so please take my thought with a grain of salt...Before this thread went to hell the immediate topic was introductions.
As a member of other forums, the introduction thread was always a sticky..that way it was always on top and easy to find (when I started here, I had to look for it). I don't know how hard it is to do this nor if it can be done with the current format. Also, the title is not as obvious as you might think it be. If it were changed to "Introductions" or " Introduce yourself" it would be more obvious what goes there.
If a newbie popped in and asked a question without introduction usually a member would answer the question the best they could and then end the post with something like..."Welcome to the forums, why don't you tell us a little about yourself in the introductions thread".
Just my .02...

OK, enough treasure trolls.

I do have another suggestion, and I think it's really important.  There needs to be an open dialog between the admin and the users regarding forum rules/decorum.

For example, one of my threads was locked recently.  I never really got justification why.  I don't think I'm owed a personalized, hand-delivered explanation or anything, but I still don't really understand why the thread was unacceptable.  It would have been nice if an admin left a little note at the bottom of it saying "I'm locking this thread because of xyz" or even just "I'm locking this thread."  I mean,  I didn't really learn anything from that experience.

On the ppk Isa or a mod will just do little "play nice" reminders.  Things like that.  Reminders of the rules.  There HAS to be an open dialog when breaches of rules happen.  That's the only way behaviors can change.  The admin can't be this far-away figure who doesn't appear in the threads at all.

this is not the ppk. go post dirty threads over there.

Yeah, that worked really well for you, Latka!

dzrtrat, yes check out roll call! It's really helpful in getting to know people on the site...also, just popping into a thread or starting your own! I'm new here too and the people couldn't be nicer, funnier or cooler. I think you'll like it!

Also, I LOVE the idea of an email being sent to new members with some guidelines and intros for the site! Added into the ideas bank...one that we can hopefully implement very soon!

I'm sad I missed the excitement. Heard someone called me a whiney faggot.  Can anyone confirm this awesomeness?

I think you would be referred to as a "fag stag". Although, I thoroughly enjoy the term for the straight male who has a lot of lesbian friends... ready for it? LESBRO. genius!

I'm not gonna sift back through this to find something to quote -- but wrt the "roll call" thread -- it's too damn long. If you want people to introduce themselves maybe have a subforum for that so if someone starts posting and you're like "who the heck is this guy" you can glance in that forum and see if they've said anything. Also gives people more of an opportunity to personally welcome new folks, imo. When threads get too long they just get chaotic and intimidating.
