I think that I should have the power to ban any and everyone that I deem unfit or just plain annoying/whiney.

OK, enough treasure trolls.

I do have another suggestion, and I think it's really important.  There needs to be an open dialog between the admin and the users regarding forum rules/decorum.

For example, one of my threads was locked recently.  I never really got justification why.  I don't think I'm owed a personalized, hand-delivered explanation or anything, but I still don't really understand why the thread was unacceptable.  It would have been nice if an admin left a little note at the bottom of it saying "I'm locking this thread because of xyz" or even just "I'm locking this thread."  I mean,  I didn't really learn anything from that experience.

On the ppk Isa or a mod will just do little "play nice" reminders.  Things like that.  Reminders of the rules.  There HAS to be an open dialog when breaches of rules happen.  That's the only way behaviors can change.  The admin can't be this far-away figure who doesn't appear in the threads at all.

I agree Kate.

Regarding searching recipes by their main ingredients:  How hard would it be to add a little section to the recipe submissions that ranks the percentage of ingredients?

If that were applied, it would be easier to search for a recipe that might help us use up an ingredient before it goes bad.

i just thought of one at work today!

some people don't like when people just start posting without introducing themselves in the roll call thread (i, personally, don't care.. but that's besides the point). maybe we could make all of the boards/threads locked until someone posts in the roll call thread so that we have a little indication of who that person is/what they are about first?

I think I could get behind this!  Unless...wait...no.

I think that that generally comes up when the person's initial posts are pot-stirring and/or when they seem like they might be a banned user under a new name.  That's my impression anyway.
Oh, and I'm not keen on that idea, because I've never posted in the roll call thread.  ;)

i've seen a lot of people with pretty benign posts get lashed out against because people believed them to be other people, then their posts start getting mean. it's vicious cycle.

but you wouldn't be opposed to posting there, would you?

but that just seems like people should take a chill pill unless they have reason to open an can of whoop ass on someone. if it "seems" person x is someone else, then ignoring/not playing that game seems like a better solution than having the introductions thread be required. anyways, people can just make stuff up then.

i agree but that doesn't happen. and i know people can lie, i guess i just don't like when people are like "please introduce yourself like the rest of us have". ugh. maybe it's just me.

I don't think it should be a requirement to introduce yourself, but I also don't think saying, "hey, why don't you introduce yourself on rollcall"  is a bad thing.

Yeah. I think the only times I've ever directed someone there, have been when they say something like, "I don't know where to put this.." (as they make an introduction). Anyway, I agree with veggydog, and lubes.

How about as a 'part of the vegweb/friends introduction experience' when you set up an account, you're given a kinda basic rundown of the forums (what topics go where) ideas/suggestions for profile building and a few 'suggested' threads for them to get their feet wet!

i dunno. i've been on boards (vegan fitness? can't remember..) that they made you and it didn't bother me.
but anyway, it doesn't matter! just an idea.

I like that you are asking for feedback from everyone.

I personally really liked the ignore button & found it useful. And I like the idea of making the recipe search better so that when I end up with new produce I can easily find recipes for it.
