I think ignore features are good and useful but all they do is based on your own personal account settings prevent the "ignored" posters / posts / reviews from showing for you.

Which is great when people are mature enough not to treat it like a threat or use it to hurt others.  I know this is the internet and people are rarely mature or nice but here at vegweb I have high hopes we can all be mature and nice.  When that is impossible its always best to fall back to an ignore and the old stand by "If you cant say something nice, dont say anything at all" adage.

here here! it sounds do simple, why doesn't it work in practice?
honestly, i just think if people can't help but ignore someone without the ignore button, how can they expect to do it with the button? i mean, the button is self-controlled.

Ohhhh ok.  I didn't get what it was.

I guess I don't really have an opinion then.  I probably wouldn't use it.

I would absolutely love it if there was a "spell check" option in the blogs! I am such a terrible speller and if I want my blogs to be at all readable I have to compose on word and copy/paste in which leads to a whole new series of formatting issues...*sigh* all I need is spell check.

But please don't do anything to the blogs that could cause all of them to vanish--I don't have those files backed up!! *ahhhh* the last year and a half of my live would be gone--oh nooooos! (I know...you would think I would save the word documents of them...but I don't...maybe I should go copy them out...)

Thank you!

capture, you should use firefox. everything is automatically spell checked as it's typed out. it saves me.

I do! But you can't fix it in the e blogs! it underlines what is wrong--but you can't change it!!! :( it's totally weird!

I thought of something! On ppk, if you hit "subscribe to topic" (like notify), it only sends you one email, after at least one person has replied. With VW notify, we get an email for each, and every reply. It would be nice to only get the one...and then after you go to the topic, it starts over. I mean, I don't know exactly how it works..

I only get one notification on vw too

if i remember right, the ignore was taken off because it was making the site run really slow when it was put up. but that was a bit ago and i don't remember well all the times. i think it is easiest to just not feed the trolls. or what others have said.

I was away from internet access for a few days, so I'm a little late getting back to this and it looks like it was answered.  I think an ignore function is valid and in use on other forums.

Minus:
I accidentally had someone on ignore on another board and one post to another lacked context.  I finally asked about it and they helped me figure out that I had someone on ignore.

Plus:
Ignoring is overkill for general things, but if a troll wanders away from the debate board it would be nice to give people options.  One of the reasons we have four boards in the first place is so that the people who want a mellow board have that space.  If a troll starts on the Debate board and branches out, it would be nice for people to have the ignore option until the situation is handled.

omg fix the search. i can NEVER find crap. i gave up on the "advance search" but it would be cool if you could say "find X in the boards or in recipes" or where ever. if i want to find a recipe for using beets, it would be great to get only recipes in my search instead of recipes mixed with chat about beets.

I cannot agree with this more! The search as it is now is like...almost worthless. :( I can never, ever find what I'm looking for, and usually resort to just using Google to search for "VegWeb + " & try to find it that way! 8-)

Really? How? I get one message for every reply, in each topic. So, if there's been 18 chitchat replies since my last visit, I get 18 email notif., not just one. ???

Along these lines, I would love to be able to modify recipe reviews.

Ditto this, too! I remember being able to for a little while, and then all the sudden, we couldn't. I'd love to have this feature back!

Oh - one more thing I thought of! I think under the VegFriends tab, where you can select the "Search Profiles" option... We should be able to search by username - and then have anything similar come up. For instance, as it is now, if I was searching for Caroleena2 but spelt it as "Carolena" or didn't put the 2 at the end, nothing would show up... I think most search engines would throw up the suggestion for Caroleena2, since it can kind of "guess" that that's who I'm looking for... Does that make sense?

Thanks for taking our suggestions!

JessaCita - yeah, that makes total sense! And good recommendation, it's added to the list!

I want to be able to trade in trolls for Treasure Trolls.  That would be a good option.  I loved those.

p.s. everyone should google image treasure trolls and look at the girl with the troll fetish (slightly PG).

/totally unproductive statement.

Omg! That troll picture flooded me with treasure troll memories...and smells. I think we've had a treasure troll discussion before? I had a cave family of treasure trolls..with outfits, and clubs, and stuff.

OK, enough treasure trolls.

I do have another suggestion, and I think it's really important.  There needs to be an open dialog between the admin and the users regarding forum rules/decorum.

For example, one of my threads was locked recently.  I never really got justification why.  I don't think I'm owed a personalized, hand-delivered explanation or anything, but I still don't really understand why the thread was unacceptable.  It would have been nice if an admin left a little note at the bottom of it saying "I'm locking this thread because of xyz" or even just "I'm locking this thread."  I mean,  I didn't really learn anything from that experience.

On the ppk Isa or a mod will just do little "play nice" reminders.  Things like that.  Reminders of the rules.  There HAS to be an open dialog when breaches of rules happen.  That's the only way behaviors can change.  The admin can't be this far-away figure who doesn't appear in the threads at all.
