I think my favorite gift to receive would be expensive kitchen appliances that I would really love to own, but would not love to pay for. This year, I am thinking about an espresso maker... Just sayin'! ;)
Homemade food gifts are my favorite thing to give. Seems not too many people have time to do this - or even make things for themselves - anymore. It's usually really appreciated, especially if the recipient is on a special diet or can't eat certain things and a gift is made with that taken into consideration.
I like to give gifts that have some thought put into them. I like to receive those too. I received a coffee mug and a journal from my dad's girlfriend on my birthday and was thrilled. Even my own mom would not think to give me those things, although coffee and writing are my favorite things in the world. Gifts that show the person really knows you and cares about you. My grandma is dying of cancer, and for Christmas I am making her a photo album full of pictures of her family and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
I'm in agreeance that the best kinds of gifts are homemade, personalized and from the heart. This year, I am using recycled jars to make vegan hot choco and cake kits to my friends (even the carnivores) with personalized notes. :)
The gift of photographic memories. I'm like paparazzi with my Canon Rebel XT. I take photos of everyone and everything, including food and gifts at my friend's events: a 30th b'day party, baby shower, wedding shower. Then I give them a cd and they have those memories 4-ever.
My 3 1/2 year old daughter and i have started a tradition where we make all of our own Christmas cards and for my family that don't live close to us we make them a miniature photo album so they don't feel like there missing out on her life!! They really enjoy it and look forward to the pics :) and i enjoy the time with my daughter! So i would have to agree with everyone else anything that is homemade is a great way to give or receive a gift.

I definitely love to give something handmade for Christmas... especially pastries, so that my friends and family can see how good one can eat as a vegan. :>

I always enjoy a nice bottle of vegan red wine... along with a sit-&-sip with the giftgiver!
OR, better yet, I really like the gift of someone saying, 'You know, let's not do presents this year: let's just have a big ol' potluck dinner, & play some cards.' Yaaay! That's JUST what I wanted!
