I think the best thing to give or receive is unconditional love. I like to make things for people too.

I like crocheting scarves and hats...especially for people who live up north in the snow. Also, quilts or afghans. I once cross-stitched a group of roses (16x20in size) for my mom that she loved. I try to match the gift with the person receiving it.
I love to give home made gifts, they are far nicer and cheaper than anything I could afford to buy. In terms of receiving, I love gift cards to anywhere from groceries to movies to Home Depot. I so rarely splurge just on myself, that a gift card lets me do just that and get a special thing for me without taking away something from my family budget.
Definitely homemade, vegan baked goods!
I love to enlarge and frame pictures taken at special/events or occasions and give them to family and friends. The picture becomes a nice piece of art to decorate a room and reminds them of special times.
I love to receive gifts that are celebratory of veganism. I am the only vegan in my family and in my tight circle of friends, so whenever someone close recognizes my veganism through a gift, it's awesome!
I like to give donations to my friends and family's favorite charities! (Oh, and cookies too!)
Ooh, I'm not sure what my favorite gift to give is. I really, really like cooking for people and having dinner parties, so for anytime during the year, food is definitely my favorite gift. During the year I keep a mental note of what people have said so I can get them better Christmas/birthday gifts.... so my favorite gift is whatever makes the person say, "Oh my goodness! How did you know?!"

what i really really want (and almost never get) are practical things. i design and make clothing, so i love getting fabrics and notions. in a perfect world, a new machine and serger are definitely at the top of my list. and storage solutions.
i love giving gifts. i make things for people all the time. with family and friends, it's marginally easier as i know them well and can tailor things to their personalities. my son is getting a custom-designed robot hoodie, my niece is getting a faerie one, and my mother is getting one inspired by the colours of the blue morpho butterfly.
Friendship and hugs are my ideal gifts! But I also enjoy making spiced cider packages 8-)

I like to give umbrellas or sunglasses. This is because both umbrellas and sunglasses never seem to be in the right place, so the more you have the better. I also like to receive sunglasses, though I have enough umbrellas so please nobody get me one.
I like making homemade gifts for people! This year I've crocheted 2 blankets, 4 hats, sewed 3 doll outfits, and am baking a million cookies!!
I love to recieve anything homemade. My 3 year old made me a painting and it is priceless to me. I love homemade food and handmade gifts. It is thoughtful and more meaningful. :)>>>
