Weekly Giveaway: Adorable Apron from Etsy! winner is lubimiller!
There was a coffee shop where I grew up that had the most amazing picture of a seductive banana stripping off its peel. It was funny, bizarre, and the best conversation piece. I gossiped with countless other diners, hypothesizing on what scenarios might lead to a banana stripping. Was she simply getting ready for a shower? Or was this something less seemly, like an illicit affair with a kumquat? Enquiring minds! I may or may not have had many fantasties that involved stealing the picture and making it mine. This totally fabulous apron from shesocreative (http://www.etsy.com/listing/51086923/salad-dressing-clever-apron-in-packaged) strongly reminds me of my beloved stripping banana. The drawing on the apron depicts different vegetables getting dressed, with the caption, "Salad Dressing." Hilarious! I seriously don't know why I love this stuff so much but you need to own that apron to understand my joy. Besides, what goes better with all the summer grilling and soul-food eats than an apron? Adorable and functional? Yes, please!
For a chance to win the apron, let me know what your favorite soul-food meal is!
Giveaway ends on Tuesday, August 3rd at midnight, PST! Winner will be chosen at random!
I love dirty rice...haven't made it vegan but gunna have to now that I think about it.
I don't eat much soul food type foods...but I'd have to go with cornbread or beans and rice.
Black eyed peas, collards, and fried okra.
Black-eyed peas from the farmers market with cornbread and fresh grilled sweet corn. Yum!!
This. Plus okra.
I am sadly lacking in soul; but I need that apron! Cornbread I guess would be tops; I did love some jambalaya pre vegan, but that about the extent of my experience. Never seen collard greens for sale but would love to try them!
Gumbo and cornbread... mmm, so good!
Oh soooo many favorites!!! But cornbread and jambalaya would definitely have to be on the list!!!! :)
PS-That apron is super cute!
HA! You weren't kidding, that IS adorable!
I've finally come to know real soul food since moving to rural GA, and it is gooood.
The perfect soul food meal for me: Fried-chickin-style seitan, collards, and buttery-golden cornbread.
I would have to say country fried "steak" with home made mashed potatoes and a bunch of vegetables with home made veggie gravy. Mmmm! ;D
I don't eat a lot of soul foods, but I make a really good beans and rice dish that is oh, so comforting! Also, I badly need an apron!
I live with a vegan New Orleanian and have had it all - my faves were always red beans & rice or gumbo z'herbes.
YUM!! Hoppin' John with some warm, sweet, Southern style cornbread (dripping with Earth Balance, of course!), and some Cholula hot sauce for the Hoppin' John! That's some Mighty Good Southern style eatin' there, y'all!

My favorite soul food meal? Black-eyed peas with kale, cornbread, yet more kale, and bbq tofu "whibbs." Mmmm....
Shuckey beans, taters and gravy, fried green tomatoes and some cornbread all made by my dad = amazingly awesome meal. Oh, and some black raspberry dumplings for dessert. YUM!
