New Forums!

Hey All!

Just wanted to say that we're reading over all of your feedback in the other threads about the new look of the forums. Decided to start a thread dedicated to all things new forums! If you have any questions, concerns, comments, praise (!?), or anything else, please leave it here! We take everything you have to say very seriously and will be discussing it at our meetings.

If you don't feel comfortable posting in a forum, you can always email me: laura at vegweb dot com.

Thanks!
Laura

i think having all the new threads is a bit confusing... i kinda liked the more simplistic thing... but i'm sure i will get used to it... there's just so many threads to click on now :(

Yeah...I kinda like the more categories, but I think maybe like a few categories with a couple subcategories in each might be better and make it easier to navigate.

I'm glad in some ways that I'm not the only one who see's the ammount of forums to read through and weird titles, and feels confused.

What I would suggest (oh and sorry if I was rude last night, a mixture of things frustrated me, including an in ability to get to sleep, I probably should've not posted for the most part).

...I would suggest keeping a similar format to before.
(whilst typing this sopmeone seems to have beaten me to it, although perhaps in a slightly different format, damn :P)

3-5 main topics.
One dedicated to recipes.
One to health (with sub divisions for exercise, one to diet, so on so forth).
One to off topic silliness (including books, films, and general chit chat perhaps, or just divide that into another one?)
One to news, debate, controversy in general.
So on so forth.
In side of those we could then divide it up further, maybe even with the silly names (which will be in more context, and thus will be less ambigious).

Also what about for specific threads we add tags (optional of course), so for instance, the one on india and milk could be tagged with, 'culture', 'milk', 'ethics', 'india' so on so forth.
This one could be, 'topic burocracy', 'admin work', 'suggestions',' improvment'?

(I'll post from 'also' onwards else where as I'm not sure how relevant it is to this specific discussion, and you can reply where you think it's most appropriate.)

It sounds like we all have pretty much the same idea about the divisions of some sort.

Hespedal, I see what you are saying about the way you browse the forums, and I think that's what the "read unread posts" function is for, specifically.  If you don't really know what you want to talk about.

Maybe make the "read unread posts" thing more prominent for people who like to browse aimlessly like that.  Then you still have an organization scheme (which I think is crucial!), but you can bypass it if you want.

I still think the old way was silly, where we had fitness and television and products and personal stories all in the same place.  That's kind of messy.

I just want to say that I thought the Nice Package forum was going to be the "adults only" section.

Thank you for all of the great suggestions and please keep them coming!

We're compiling a list to go through at our weekly meeting and every single one of your posts will be read and discussed. Seriously.

It's so cool to be a part of a community that is so passionate about keeping itself wonderful. Thanks for caring so much and for giving us the information we need to make it the best it can be. I think that's the Army slogan but I'm gonna stick with it for VegWeb too!

You are so freaking positive!  :)>>>

i suggest the following order of processing this. it worked for me:

cry --> get mad --> come to senses --> spend time playing around --> figure out constructive comments to make it more awesome --> be a winner

we're good. we'll be okay. and in a month things will be "back to normal" for us.

This is too funny! It did work for you, very well. <3

I also want to say that for those finding it hard to locate certain threads-the search is a lot better now, so it might help for the time being. You know, just type in a word or two that you remember from the thread title. However, everything should be in the logical place. If you find something that's not, let someone know!

This is still totally different than ppk, to me, just because I'm already completely familiar with VW, and VW people. I'm not really integrated into the PPK community so much, so I just tend to read a few things. What I did when I started, though, was just hit "mark all read," and started over! Then, you can just look at what's new, and popping up. We all ignored certain things anyway, and now it's just a little easier to do so. ; )

This is what I did this morning.  So I'm sure I missed a bunch of stuff, but otherwise, it was fairly overwhelming.  And I always just hit the "Show unread posts since last visit" button, so I don't think I'm even gonna worry about the categories now....if I have a specific need or want to start a thread, I'll worry about it then....

I am thoroughly confused.  Aren't all these forums completely new?  How could there possibly be so many threads in them already?

;D

The description is fitting too:

Sitting on a must-have vegan product? Spill your consumer secrets about the best merch available, be it exciting and new or tried and true.

The names of the forums are new, and new ones have been created, but all of the same threads are here. All of the threads from all of the years have been moved into the new forums. The threads have just been moved from the old forums to the new forums. Lots, and lots of threads.

I'm a little confused, but I remember how everyone freaked when facebook changed and now I don't even remember what is different.  So I'm sure I will be ok in a week or two.

I kinda like the cutesy names but I also don't like them because they can be a little confusing (like the Nice Package thing haha) and also it seems PPK-ish. And I like VegWeb because it's VegWeb.

So someone actually went through thousands of old vegweb threads and decided which new forums they should go into?  I just can't imagine . . .

Somewhere in the Dine 'N Dash area there should be a food allergy subboard.  I guess "food allergy".  We field a lot of questions about gluten-free and soy-free and gluten- & soy- free and...

Whatever those are if not food allergies.

I'm with this as well...i like vegweb because it looks vegweb-ish...looks like a message board but is slightly different, more warm feeling.

I for one could do without the "cutesy" thing. One reader's cute is another reader's truly lame.
And yes, it feels like PPK now...intimidating, confusing. Hard to find what I want.

Also, in the Stroller Derby description, notso is not a word.
