How did you meet your partner?

I could have SWORN this was an old thread, but I couldn't find one so I'm making it.

I saw some people talking about how they met their partners in a thread and I thought it needs to be a thread, cause I love hearing those stories.

Me (which most people probably know) - Vegweb...  ;D Still makes me laugh. Long story short.. friends on vegweb, really randomly and crazily decided to move in together, and developed affections for each other after we met IRL. So weird, but great!

You guys all have such great stories!  I won't sully the thread by posting my tawdry tale.

What if we say 'please'?! (I, for one, *love* tawdry tales!)  ;)

I met Dan at college one summer. We were both working at a summer camp type program.  I noticed him on the 2nd to last day of the program and instantly liked him, so I spent the last day trying to talk to him. Never happened, so I stalked (just a tad) and got his number from a mutual friend; I called and left a message that was never returned.  Early in the semester, I took every chance I got at hanging out with him...movie nights, parties I knew he'd be at, Starbucks, the flight center, etc. We finally made out a few times for a month, but he broke up with me before we even started dating citing he didn't want a serious girlfriend (boo).  I liked him on and off for the following two years.  Then, in 2009, he called and we talked as friends.  I visited a few times in the summer, vacationed to Florida with him and his friends, then as the fall progressed I visited more often, and he FINALLY started to like me back.  I guess we "officially" started dating sometime November 2009, then moved to an obscure island in the Pacific to pursue a flying job, where we currently are today.

I guess I like our story bc I actively stalked pursued him for quite some time and eventually he gave in  ;)
Who knows where we go from here, but we're in a good place  :)

Wow these are so great stories. It really is crazy how many of you have lived together throughout the entire relationship. Way to snag your roommate's potential one night stand, sb! Hah! And yes, Storm, please?

So I met my bf on okcupid almost 5 years ago. He contacted me and then we emailed, IM'd, and talked on the phone and finally met up after a month of talking. He lived in a tiny town about 20 miles from me and neither of us had a car so he took the commuter rail and the T to come see me. Luckily it was just as great in person as it was over the phone and computer. After our first weekend together we made the trek either to my place or his place pretty much every weekend over the next 2 1/2 years. Then he moved to Germany for a job and broke up with me, which I was devastated about. I got myself into this other relationship that was just awful, and I told him about it and he was jealous. One night he was drunk and invited me to come visit him over the summer and I was thrilled but tried not to get my hopes up about getting back together. Well, after a week of staying with him he asked me to move to Germany to live with him. I said yes, and 4 months later I made the move! It's been just over a year now and I couldn't be happier (apart from all the time he's had to spend on business trips and leaving me here alone, but nevermind that)!

Love these stories!

I went to Germany to study abroad for my last semester of college. The first three weeks were an orientation program, so they split us into groups according to our language abilities and assigned each group a "tutor" (basically a local student at the university who helped us with bureaucratical paper work and where to find the best bars). I didn't think much of my tutor except to note that he was funny and cool and happened to bar tend at a bar we all frequented. 2 days into orientation, while we were at the bar my friends and I were talking about how cute our tutor was and I made the comment along the lines of how embarrassing and bad it would be to sleep with your tutor (yeah, fate right there). 3 days into orientation my tutor lost some of my paper work, so I ended up having to spend a couple of hours chatting with him. After that he started inviting me to things and I started crushing on him MAJORLY embarrassingly hard.

After a week, I was pretty bad off. I knew he was some I could be interested in seriously, but the whole tutor/student dynamic was kind of difficult. I knew he was the type of guy to be professional. So I thought we could just stay friends until orientation was over.

In the end, after a little over a week of orientation I invited him to one of the other student's birthday bar fests, got supremely drunk on ouzo and proceeded to hit on him shamelessly and embarrassingly. I dragged him to a dark corner and kissed him and that was that. I think after that I spent one night a week at my place. After 4 months, he left to go study abroad in China and I went home. We did the whole long distance thing for 2 months before I followed him to China and now we have moved to Germany together.

Like a lot of other stories on here, we lived together pretty much right away and that was it. We'll see where our relationship goes next.  ;)

Aww these are cute.  I remember the vegweb beginning of hespedels relationship  :) i was a more active member then hehe.  Here goes my story.

I moved back to LA after being in NY for 6 years.  I got a job about a month after coming back where I met one of my very cool best friends.  About a year later I was parked outside of her house chatting with her when her cousin walked by (oddly enough I didn't see his face at all, just his black shirt and jeans, his face was blocked by my friend) I felt a weird gravitation toward him.  About two weeks later I was at that same friends house, where I actually met her cousin face to face, his name is Jeremiah.  So we talked, he was really shy, i actually thought he didn't like me at all because he was so quiet, but again, I felt a magnetic pull toward him and couldnt stop thinking about him.  (He now tells me he was so shy because as soon as he saw me, he thought I was the most beautiful women he had ever seen, hes very sweet hehe)  Three months later we started going out on very innocent dates and a month later we got into a relationship :).  Its been a year and half and everything is great:)  Theres a lot of wedding talk going on and lots of moving in talk as well...even though he practically lives with me, hehe.

I first met DH at a hardcore show AGES ago, and was introduced by my ex. DH does not remember meeting me then, and he barely remembers my ex because they barely hung out. Haha.

Fast forward 2 years later (2003) DH was in a local hardcore band I had seen, and I had even "seen" (recognized) him a few places around town. I must assert that I am into music, and was so against groupies and thus never talked to guys in bands on purpose. But he was "my type".

Well I found a flyer for their show that night, with a link to a hardcore message board. Bored, I went to message board and DH was on there. He was surprised that a chick into hardcore lived in the desert (at the time I was pretty much the only one). We agreed to meet up at the show, just to say hi...it wasn't a romantic rendevousz or anything. He said he'd be the guy in the pink belt.

I went to the show wondering which band member he was (I did not see his picture online before we met). I knew one had to moved to KC, and I thought it was him, "the cute one". Low and behold, I spotted the guy with the pink belt...and it WAS the cute one!

We basically started hanging out all the time, because we had so few friends in the area. DH knew the minute he met me he wanted to marry me. Problem was I was going to Poland and Russia for 6 months to teach English! So we stayed in touch, and absence made the heart grow much much fonder. We got engaged as soon as I got home and married 4 months later.

Been married 6 years and still going strong  :)>>>

I joined OKcupid on a whim in the summer of 2009...mostly because I was bored and lonely, and also because of the quizzes.  :P I made a thorough profile, even though I figured that I probably wouldn't have much luck finding any real friend material--much less romantic partner material--on there.
A few months (and lots of unanswered messages from lame /creepy dudes) later, on October 11th I got a message from this hot boy named LoupRah:
http://www.solarculture.org/solarculture/images/artists/js_JAMES.jpg
(that's his "Soul Beast" painting, which is finished now and looks AWESOME... click the pic to see!)

...and his profile indicated that he would be like, a best friend-type at least. He found me by searching for "vegan" within a certain mile radius, and I showed up with a 90something percent match for him. His message to me was brief but to the point-- basically, "Hey, We're both vegan artists with a lot in common. We should hang out together sometime."
I replied with a probably obviously eager YES, and We talked online for about a week before We met in person on October 17th.....

We arranged to meet in Sevananda health food store in Atlanta, to then check out the Halloween festivities that were going on in the L5P neighborhood that night, and a drum circle afterward. He was dressed as a sort of desert-hippie demon with a handlebar 'stache, goatee, and devil horns, and I was a hobbit, complete with pointy ears and a green cloak. I approached the store to find the most handsome hippie demon I'd ever seen, holding his arms out wide to greet me with a hug! ....he was also holding a bag with Alternative Baking Company cookies in his hand, and I clumsily knocked them to the ground as I came in for the hug (which was awesome, btw). We had a good laugh as I helped him pick up the dropped goodies. Pretty sure I fell in love right then and there.

We decided to skip the H'ween stuff and go to my place to enjoy Our snacks...which was convenient, since the drum circle at the LC Land Trust was practically in my back yard at the time (Amata house ftw). We ate raw spring rolls and vegan junk food, talked and got to know one another before heading to the drum circle. We sat and enjoyed the drumming by the fire, and walked around the land trust to talk some more.... THEN, We walked back to the fire and James recognized someone--Our now mutual friend JD, who had a bunch of drums and stuff with him. We played together until the circle ended, then went back to JD's for more musical jamming, buckwheat pancakes and intoxication timez.  ;)b  (JD is the guy hill-rolling and train-hopping in the video below)
Four days later, I met James' parents when I came down to Moreland to film some scenes for the music video he was working on:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wFe4Azntoo

James says he knew for sure that he wanted to be with me when I jumped into his grandparents' pond (0:14 in the video ) with no hesitation, just for his project.  <3  And also, I wrestled with Mingus and let him hump my leg (0:25 in the video), which was adorable.

Aaaaand now I live with the guy, and We're still doing all kinds of cool shit together.
Our wedding will be on October 12th this year.  :)>>>

And another fun bit of history:
That's me, butt-ass-naked at 1:16 - 1:20 in the vid, and that's Daniel (James' brother) chasing me.
We filmed that on Thanksgiving day (~5 weeks of Us talking and hanging out).... AND I had just met Daniel for the first time the night before.   :>
Then We ran into his Aunt Emily (the older lady with the pink scarf) about an hour before the big feast, and We did a quick shot of her as a hitchhiker, since We had the plaid shirt with Us from the just-filmed naked nymph scene.
"Nice to meet You, too, Aunt Emily. See You at dinner!"
.....a moment later, to James: "she has no idea what naughty things We've all just been doing.. bwahahahaH!"
:-D
Yes, We are awesome.

I met the guy i like online, as a lot of people have. It was actually another forum were i was searching for music. We started talking a 1 1/2 years ago and at first i learned that him and his ex girlfriend were going through some issues, he was still in love with her so i became the best friend. The girl he always went to for advice on what to do, etc. I didn't exactly know how to handle it so i left him alone for about 3 months and when i came back i don't know what happened but he started to notice me as more than a friend and one thing led to another and we're now lovers. I would love to be more BUT, he lives in Belgium and i'm in Texas and we can't see each other as much as we'd like so he's decided we should wait because he wants to make sure i'm worth moving to America for. But as he's learned, i'm a stubborn person and i will eventually get him. Hopefully, i've never been in love so i'm hoping he'll change that:)

Hi everyone!  I haven't been around much lately, but this thread caught my eye.  I've enjoyed everyone's stories and felt compelled to leave my own...which many of you may remember.  Camillus and I met on vegweb. He was in Albany, NY, I was in Columbia, SC.  We chatted in the forums in a platonic way for nearly 2 years then some comments in a certain thread prompted us to get to know each other better.  We chatted online and on the phone and decided to meet.  He drove down here for a weekend visit.  We hit it off immediately.  We did the long distance thing for a year, then he and his kitties moved in with me in Columbia.  We're amazingly happy (which is part of the reason I'm never on the forums anymore).
