Vegan baby diet

Ok so my daughter is 11 months old now very healthy and we have decided to switch her from lavo-octo diet to a vegan diet. I was just wondering from some of the other vegan parents, what is a normal meal plan for the day for a healthy vegan baby.

Olive(our daughter) usually has a forumula bottle(we're going to wean her off it) in the morning, rice cereal and fruit or veggies for lunch, snack of another bottle or pieces of fruit, then veggies and fruit and sometimes another bottle at end of day. Juice dispersed throughout the day. We are going to replace the formula with soy and rice milk and start putting some extras in her food like nutritional yeast.

Any suggestions or help from other parents who have raised vegan babie?

My 17 month old is very picky. I have a pre-mixed jar of nutritional yeast, brewer's yeast, and wheat germ that i put in anything I can to get extra vitamins (like in his hot cereal). Also, ground flax seeds or flax oil for EFA's. you can also mix that into the milk you give her.
I recommend THE SUPER BABY FOOD BOOK...its such a great resource for feeding babies and toddlers.

I also mix a serving of fresh, live blue green algae into his juice in the morning. It has all the vitamins and minerals known to man, and is equal to about 2 lbs of greens (which he wont eat).

My little guy also likes Tempeh bacon, hummus, and baba ganouj. He doesn't like regular kid stuff like pasta, peas or carrots. Basically no vegetables at all :(
If it weren't for nut butters and jelly, I don't think I could make it through the day.

Good choice to get her veganized now! I think it would be harder later, as she gets older and acquires a taste for dairy.

My kiddo loved avocado, and I would steam and blend other veggies into it.  She also loved whole wheat pasta w/ tomato sauce, (so again I would blend many veggies into this,) and we make her bean and veggie soups in the crockpot that are super mushy.  For a while she was really into black beans, and even seitan nuggets, but now shes going through a bit of a bland phase, but I can usually get her to eat at least a few steamed veggies if I put Earth balance "buttery spread" on it.  Bananas can and should be frozen to make fruit smoothies, which you can add kale to and they don't even notice, (maybe add another fruit like rasberry or blueberries as well, to mask the color, )

Mashed sweet potato, avocado, cooked carrots, mashed-up beans, nut butters, toast, hummus. It sounds like she's not eating a lot, yet, but soon you'll be able to add a whole lot more stuff. Basically, whatever you are eating, mush it up and let her try it. Maybe try to cut out the juice? They tend to get full on whatever they are drinking, and then not eat much actual food.

This is kinda random, but have you heard of the deceptively delicious cookbook? It's not vegan, of course, but you might want to flip through it next time you're at the bookstore. If you don't know about it, it has recipes that incorporates pureed vegetables into things like mac and cheese, brownies, etc. You could easily make them into vegan recipes, or take their ideas and use them in your own cooking :) But i had to share for anyone that doesn't know about it

Hi!  I've been raising my son as a lacto-ovo vegetarian - he's now 19 months old.  I found very little information out there to help me out so I actually started writing a blog about raising a veg baby - www.thevegetarianbaby.com.  I included the food introduction plan that we used, as well as info and recipes - many of them vegan.  I hope you find it helpful!  Good luck!

I am glad you posted.  I actually have an 11 month old son and we are in the beginning stages of weaning off breast feeding.  I have been trying to figure out what to put him on once the breast milk is gone (FYI I am going back to work in a couple months and will try to pump as long as I can.).  I give him almond milk with his breakfast and lunch but have been worried about him getting enough fat.  Thank goodness this kid LOVES avocado!  He really doesn't like a ton of solids though, unfortunately his favorite food, besides nursing is Fish Crackers which have both TONS of sodium and cheese.  I have apprehension towards putting him on Soy milk so I am will definitely try out the Rice milk.  I am so glad there is someone out there in basically my exact situation!

we like to switch it up and give our daughter soy, rice, and almond milk. she mostly drinks soy, but  i always make sure to get a fortified milk.  and she eats lots of avocadoes also haha.

I've got two, and both are vegan from birth (except for the occasional cruelty free egg). Basically, we moved from baby food into what we eat...

Geez, I guess I'm not much help here, but we basically just gave them "big people" food at their own pace. Our youngest is 10 months old, and right now she eats baby food, dry cereal bits and mam milk as staple. Daily we switch it up with things we eat... She likes spicy stuff (sambar and upma), digs steamed cauliflower and brocolli (but only from daddy's fork... ?) and tries desperately to feesd herself. With mixed results.

I guess I saying don't be afraid to give her things. Kids can handle a lot of "big people" food from a fairly young age. See what works. If your diet is varied and healthy, hers will be too.
