What's veg*n for Halloween? Candy Edition

Hi everyone!

I'm not much of a candy eater, but with Halloween coming and along with it several parties, I'm wondering what candy is safe to eat? I know some basics, like anything with marshmellow or "chewey" candies probably contain gelatin, so I know to stay away from them. So what can I eat? Thanks everyone!

I'm pretty sure red vines are vegan.

Candy not on that list of utomost importance: Sour warheads.

Also, there's this chocolate/candy out there... it happens to be vegan because the chocolate is so cheap and hydrogenated. It's caramel and peanuts coated in chocolate... anyone know what I'm talking about? I think it's got "chew" in the name (but not wha-guru, though those are totally awesome).

Aaaand, I saw at Target there are a number of candy mixes that happen to be vegan, and there's halloween-edition mini-oreo mix-bag-things, that are vegan. I'm too much of an oreo fan not to buy this for myself  :D

working at a convenience store (in Canada . . .  some products with the same brand have different ingredients depending on the country they are made in) I have checked the ingredients for many many different products just out of curiosity.  I've been shocked to see that lately big brands of chips have been adding "lactose" to flavours that probably don't require it . . . lactose is meant to add a creamy aspect to flavoring . . . but does dill pickle and salt and vinegar flavoured chips really need to be creamy?  That I don't understand, and 've been thinking about writing the company.  So far as I know, the only brands/flavors of chips I could eat would be Ruffles plain, All Dressed, and Barbecue, and Lays plain.  Off the top of my head I don't know of any others but those are the ones I like.

As far as the candy, it's great that not all of the mainstream candies contain animal products.  Up here, Mike and Ikes tropicals don't have any animal products that I know of.  Also, on the Peta list it says US brands of Smarties don't have animal products, but I know the ones up here in Canada have "modified milk ingredients" in them.

Sour Patch Kids and Maynard's Sour Cherry Blasters also do not have any animal ingredients.

For halloween this year I think I'll find a couple of good vegan stuff and give it away to the kids int he neighborhood.  Hope they like it!

Also, if anything I said above was wrong, please let me know.  Thanks

oh i TOTALLY know what youre talking about.. they are actually on that list under Goldberg's (or something) Peanut Chews.. They are just Peanut Chews.. I dont think Ive ever noticed someones name on them.. the thing about those is only 1 is vegan.. there are ones in a blue package and ones in a red.. i cant remember for sure which is the vegan one, but i think it is the red ones.. they taste just like a vegan snickers.. omg so good.. and i call them pikachus.. cuz peanut chews sounds like pikachus heheh.. and i <3 teh anime

another one of my favorites off the list are the chick o stick.. they taste like the inside of a butterfinger bar, coated in coconut.. oh man i want one right now!

they have mini versions of both pikachus (hehe) and chick o sticks that would be perfect for halloween.. hurray for halloween! i gotta get to making my costume!
