vegan diet book??

i have just seen (and read a bit) of a book called skinny bitch  http://www.amazon.com/Skinny-Bitch-Kim-Barnouin/dp/0762424931          has any one read it?  it seems to be promoting veganism as a good way to stay thin, it also seemed to be anti-animal cruelty too.      so just wondering if you guys hads read it or anything about it?  :)bb

I clicked the link to read the reviews on this book and got a giggle out of this one:

I bought this book thinking that it is another diet book, in order to lose some weight and actually be somewhat of a "skinny bitch." However, all the book has were guidelines for being vegan and much meat industry bashing. This was not helpful for a normal person.

Apparently, vegans are not normal! ;D

ha, also funny because if she would eat a good balanced vegan diet rather than whatever crap/diet she was looking for, she would likely loose some weight.  ::)

I own the book and I think it's great!  I'm trying to follow their advice of having fruit and soy yogurt for breakfast instead of whole wheat toast most days.  Most of the other advice is stuff I already knew about doing.  Chapter 6 of the book about factory farming and animal cruelty made me cry.  I guess "normal people" don't let horrific things like that get to them.  I'm glad I'm not normal then!  8)

I was completely addicted to soy yogurt a couple years ago (the vanilla flavored)! That stuff is the best!

One thing that is true, though, is that a lot of veggie and vegan foods can be very high carb. Not that I'm a low-carb person... but high-carb can translate to high calorie. Going veggie or vegan alone doesn''t necessarily help with weight. You still have to watch calories and exercise. I say it since I've definitely gained weight on a vegan diet before! Like... some people are vegetarian or vegan but still don't eat many vegetables! Just deep fried falafel on pita, more bread, rice, potatoes, etc.

Love the book.
Chapter six sucks, but it's reality, what can you do except read it and move on and educate people if they have an open mind.

The rest of it is hilariously funny.

Read it just recently. I didn't really learn anything I hadn't already read in more depth somewhere else, but it's a great intro for reluctant readers or people who are just beginning to be open to veg*anism. Chapter 6 is harsh but then that's the reality of the situation. I could only skim that one and crying is a given. The book is written in a tough-love kind of way but the ending is just plain upbeat with a "you go girl" kind of message.

I have been turned off by the name, neither of which I see as very positive.  I know it is pro female but still c'mon the word b**** to me is extremely insulting.
