solar battery charger

Our old plug is is starting not to charge very well and I would like to get a solar charger.  Does anyone have one and do you like it?  We have cell phones too so would a solar panel be better?

I am clueless about solar panels and portable electrics so any info would be great!

Thanks

i had a solar battery charger once. i say "had" because i quickly gave it away or something after i realized it didn't work.
though, i got it from my parents house, which is usually loaded with all kind of nonworking crap, so that could be why it sucked.

at this flat I used to live at we had this crazy homemade solar-panel/car-battery concoction that my flatmates rigged up, and we would use it to walk down to the beach with the stereo and play Black Sabbath and Guns'n'Roses at 2 in the morning... Fantastic fun, but massively inconvenient, and a lot less fun if you lived in the nice houses by the beach....
Though if you were just wanting it for charging stuff up at home, the bulky inconvenience factor wouldn't be such a problem.

Sorry, that's probably also a very non-useful comment, but your question reminded me of fun solar-powered times...

I have a AAA-D cell solar charger.  It's fine if you don't mind waiting extra time for the charge.  You would have to do something different for cell phones.  I'm not sure how much a setup costs that would allow you that flexibility and if you environmental money is better used elsewhere.

I don't mind waiting for the charge, and I don't mind spending a fair amt of money on something that will work and work for awhile.  I am trying to slowly change things over plus I need to show my husband that things like this will work without giving up anything.
