Smart Balance Vegan?

I got a cobbler recipe off of the website today and the poster said that she used Smart Balance Light for vegan butter.  I know Earth Balance is vegan, but I didn't think that Smart Balance was.  Can someone clarify for me?

There are different types of Smart Balance, and if I remember correctly some are and some aren't. There is a SB light and other styles, though I can't remember which is vegan. I think this might be a fairly new development. So, read carefully is all I can say for now.

I know one SB (again, can't remember which) has fish oil in it. Yummy.

Smart Balance Light is vegan. It's probably not the best for frying but I like it as a spread and I've used it in baking with surprisingly good results, though its primary use is as a "buttery spread." So Earth Balance is usually what I'd use for cookies or a grilled sandwich but sometimes I use a combination of the two or in a pinch just the SB Light.

For a cobbler I think Smart Balance Light would work fine.

Smart Balance is annoying brand as far as being vegan goes.  They have several different "butter" products and not all of them are vegan.  Unfortunately they are really bad about changing their ingredients frequently.  Several times I have almost bought nonvegan tubs that are the same product as a vegan one just a few months few.  SB is very readily available to me as compared to EB, so I buy it sometimes.  The good news is that they clearly label their vegan products as vegan if you read enough of the label.  I think the light one is always vegan (obviously check), but the organic, olive oil, and flax oil ones have been vegan in the past.  I wish they'd be more consistent.

No wonder I was so confused about this. Now it makes more sense.

I know for sure the Smart Balance Light is vegan. I buy that one regularly and have used it in baking and stuff and it works out pretty good.

ugh, be super careful checking the label. My mom just bought a HUGE tub of smart balance for me but has whey and milk in it so I can't use it. Earth balance is always vegan and it tastes awesome in all sorts of situations like on bagels or in baking. BOO! Looks like I'm going to have to go back and get some more EB. I suppose someone will take the smart balance. :-\
