I've used a couple bottles of this. It works ok, but doesn't really have a great scent. There's nothing really special about it. I don't even really find that I use less of it, but I don't use much of any detergent. (AC)

DIY (make your own)
Baking soda
I use baking soda for quite a few things. I've tried it in the dishwasher, but don't know if I noticed a difference. It's great for scrubbing, and cleaning drains. (AC)
I use it to clean the countertops, if there's a stain on them. I also use baking soda to scrub the kitchen sink. (veganrun)
Borax
I (and several others on here) make my own laundry detergent...here's what I do: 2 gallons of water, 1 cup borax, 1 cup washing soda, 1 bar glycerin or castille soap (I grate it in the food processor), 1/2 cup Dr. Bronner's soap (basically because I like the smell it adds). Boil and cook until the soap melts.  Cool and pour into containers (lotus)
Homemade dishwasher powder: Mix equal parts Borax and Washing Soda (lotus)
Dr. Bronner's
I dilute Dr. Bronner soap and put in an empty spray bottle. I use this to clean the floors, the countertops (if they're not super dirty), and the bathtub. I don't know the dilution--I just added soap until the solution was pretty cloudy and I thought it cleaned well.  (veganrun)
Salt
I like to use kosher salt to scrub the bathtub. I'll spray it with a diluted Dr. Bronner solution, let that sit, sprinkle on salt, then scrub it down. It's like Comet, and wipes away soap scum. (veganrun)
Works with lemon juice to remove rust stains! (AC)
Vinegar
I use ACV mixed with water for mirrors, and white vinegar as a rinsing agent in the dishwasher. I also use it with baking soda for drains, and scrubbing. I've also used it a couple times as a fabric softener in laundry, but don't usually use one. I also use it to clean up stains on the carpet. (AC)
If I'm feeling lazy I'll fill up the bathtub with a thin layer of water, then pour in apple cider vinegar. I let this sit an hour or so, then drain, scrub with sponge, rinse again. Good for soapscum.  (veganrun)
Weed Killer: Mix about 1 quart of Vinegar with 3-4 tbsp dishsoap (or Bronners) in a spray bottle.  Spray directly on weeds.  This works especially well on a really sunny day.  I've killed lots of the dandelions that tried to take over my front yard.  Use 1/2-1 cup vinegar in the laundry rinse instead of fabric softener. (lotus)
I've been using a vinegar/water/lemon mix for bathroom cleaning, and I guess it was ok. I got tired of the smell, though, and it wasn't good at wiping up the hairs that Olen creates all around. (AC)
I use the cheapest white vinegar diluted in hot water to mop my floors.  Initially I just used it on the slate floors, and it was good.  Now I use it on lino and wooden floors and it is fine on these.  I have found this just as good as any other cleaning product I've used before and much cheaper.  Definitely recommend it. Laundry wash
I think I like this better than the 7th gen. It's a much smaller bottle, and a much smaller lid, but it smells a bit cleaner. I'm still searching for the perfect laundry soap, but this isn't bad. (AC)
Limescale remover

Non chlorine bleach liquid

Non chlorine bleach powder

Toilet bowl cleaner
I like this and Mrs. Meyers about equally as much. This was has a more neutralish fresh scent, and it's a bit more bubbly..which makes it seem cleaner. No problems. (AC)
Etsy
I've been toying with the idea of making my own laundry detergent recently, but Andy's not really into it. Apparently a woman at his work makes her own and he says she smells really bad...so....I found this seller on Etsy: http://www.etsy.com/shop/showertreatsoap?ref=seller_info I just ordered the the powdered detergent in lilac.  I'll report back as soon as I try it out! (erinmonster)
Method
I love everything I've tried! The price is right, and the products are effective! (sb)
All purpose cleaner
I love the pink grapefruit scent. It makes cleaning unbelievably fun. (sb)
Daily shower spray
I used to use this all the time, but haven't bought it in a while. Pungent smell! (sb)
I don't think I like this. I'm not a huge fan of the smell, and I didn't notice it doing anything. (AC)
Foaming hand wash
comes in several scents. I always get unscented. This is pretty cool, but I prefer the gel stuff. (sb)
Gel hand wash
I bought this all the time and once I found a gigantic refill bottle of this at Costco. I still have some left after 2 years, and it's the BEST. (sb)
Glass and surface cleaner
This stuff is good, but I tend to use homemade glass cleaner these days. (sb)

This stuff works pretty well and smells great. (sb)

Mrs. Meyers
Household all purpose cleaner

Household all purpose soap bar

Household automatic dish packs

Household countertop spray
(orange clove scent) After using a mix of vinegar/water/lemon for a while, I feel like this spray is so much better. I love the seasonal scent, the spray is good, and it seemed to work well. Definitely more expensive than making own, but I've been happy with most Mrs. Meyers products. (AC)
Household dish soap
I have the unscented one and I really like it.  I'm sensitive to perfumes so I'm really thankful for this!  It gets nice and sudsy, and just a little bit cleans a lot of dishes. (icephrosty)
I'm using the basil scented, and I like it. It doesn't really smell like basil, but it smells nice. It doesn't seem to foam up a ton, so I'm not sure how I like its performance, but not bad. (AC)
Household dishwasher liquid
I have the lemon verbena, and it is SO STRONG. I will never buy it again. It's very concentrated, and I guess works better than some, but it leaves the smell on the dishes! I can't even put certain things in there, because it contaminates the food on the clean dishes with the scent. It's gross. I just want to finish the bottle, and be done. I don't know if other scents are different, but I'll stay away from it for dishes. (AC)
Household liquid hand soap
I really love the basil scent. It's my favorite hand soap. It doesn't seem drying. (AC)

Seventh Generation
Dishwashing automatic dishwasher gel
This didn't work well at all. I won't try it again, but it didn't really clean at all. My dishwasher is not great, but this seemed worse than others. (AC)
We like this, although it's the only natural dishwasher detergent we've tried. I think we're on our 3rd bottle of it, so we're pleased with it. I don't find it to be any different than the Dawn kind of whatever my parents use. The lemon smells good! (veganrun)
I didn't like this at all.  I pretty much had to wash the dishes by hand before putting them in the dishwasher or they would still have stuff stuck to them after.  I thought I just had a crappy dishwasher until I changed from Seventh Generation to Trader Joe's. (lotus)
I had the same problem ^. (monkey7)
Didn't work. (veggydog)
I think they have a new formula, which seems to work a bit better. I've had a bit more luck with it. (AC)
Dishwashing automatic dishwasher pacs

Dishwashing automatic dishwasher powder
I'm really surprised, but this seems to work better than any other detergent I've tried. Our dishwasher is crap, but this cleans better than the SG gel, and there's no leftover scent, like with the Method. I'll stick with it until I think there's something better. (AC)

Pretty good, although not as good as the regular, really chemically ones in the kitchen. I thought it took a bit more elbow grease to thoroughly clean countertops. (veganrun)
Is this the one that smells like thyme?  I love the smell!  It does a pretty good job but you need to use some elbow grease for tough stains/spills. (icephrosty)

I bought this for my mom a while back ago, and she said it was fantastic. She had been worried about the chemicals in regular toilet cleaner, so this was great. She thought it did a fantastic job on the toilet, too. (veganrun)

I've used several bottles of this, and I like it. The scent is still not as great as nonvegan detergents (why is that?), but it works ok. I think I like it better than the citrasolv, but I would still like more scent on the laundered clothes. (AC)
This stuff is amazing. Most regular detergents make my skin break out, but this stuff doesn't.  (veganrun)
Laundry natural fabric softener
I love this--I'm on my 3rd or 4th bottle now. The blue eucalyptus and lavender has a subtle scent and doesn't irritate my skin. (veganrun)
Laundry powdered laundry

Laundry natural fabric softener sheets

Trader Joe's
All purpose cleaner
Use it for almost everything. (erinmonster)
Laundry detergent

(lavender) Works good, but I wish there was an unscented version. (sb)
Powdered dishwashing detergent
This works really well.  It cleans the dishes and doesn't leave a film.  Really cheap with no phosphates! (lotus)

I (and several others on here) make my own laundry detergent...here's what I do:
2 gallons of water
1 cup borax
1 cup washing soda
1 bar glycerin or castille soap (I grate it in the food processor)
1/2 cup Dr. Bronner's soap (basically because I like the smell it adds)

Boil and cook until the soap melts.  Cool and pour into containers

I probably shouldn't use this lovely review thread, but oh well...
Lotus, our bulk bin shop has just started stocking Borax but I don't know what Dr Bronner's soap is or whether I could get it .  If I want to try and make this, should I just omit it, seeing there's already soap in the recipe, or do I need to find something similar?

I've only randomly seen borax at Target. Is washing soda there, too? I don't know what that is.

A woman at my work decided to make her own soap, and she called Wal-Mart to see if they carry washing soda, which is sodium carbonate (baking soda is sodium bicarbonate). They said they did, although I don't know where in the store they stock it. So, check Wal-Mart, and it seems Target might have it too.

I've also seen borax at Wal-Mart, Target, and actually my local co-op, too.

borax is also sold as an insecticide at home depot type places

Hydrogen Peroxide  (I know you don't have this as a product, but I thought I'd add it)  :)

Use peroxide as a bleach alternative on things like plastic cutting boards, grout, white laundry, etc.

Funny you should bring it up today, because I was already planning on coming in here! : )

I've been using a vinegar/water/lemon mix for bathroom cleaning, and I guess it was ok. I got tired of the smell, though, and it wasn't good at wiping up the hairs that Olen creates all around. Still good for mirrors.

Has anyone tried any Mrs. Meyers laundry stuff? Or have a favorite? I've used several Seventh Gen. and Citrasolv, and they're fine...but I recently used Downy (or something) at MIL's to do their laundry..and I was reminded of how great/lasting that scent is. Obviously I would never buy anything like that, but I would like something better for our laundry.

I love the Trader Joes laundry detergent - sooo much more than Seventh Generation - and it's cheaper!  We thought about trying the Meyers stuff, but it was pretty expensive too, so I'll stick to TJs for now....I saw that they had dryer sheets though - I might break down and buy those soon....

No TJ's for me! I haven't even looked at the prices of the laundry detergent at the store, because I have a huge bottle (or more?) of SG still.

Don't have one; never been to one.

What do you all use for laundry?

I've switched back to Seventh Generation, the lavender kind.  The TJ's kind I was raving about turned on me and stopped washing my clothes adequately....my clothes were smelly, and I didn't like that.

 I just realized that I had just asked that. Sorry! I am just not pleased with non good smelling detergents!
