Alternative Baking Co.

I love Alternative Baking Co.! Has anyone tried their cookies? If so, which flavors are your favorites?

I got home from work and saw a small package at my door. It looked to be from a friend, as my name and address were hand written with a lime green felt tip pen.

I was wonderfully suprised to read the return label from Alternative Baking Co.

I wrote to them last month after eating their cookies on a family trip in the mountains. I discovered their cookies when my mother, wishing to buy baked goods for the family, stopped by a coffeehouse/bakery there. I didn't think there would be anything for me. I was wrong. On the counter was a lovely assortment of Alternative Baking Co.'s cookies in 6 or 7 flavors. So I got two, and returned to buy another after falling in love with them.

The next day,  I wrote to the company online at www.alternativebaking.com to thank them for their fantastic 100% vegan cookies (a vegan logo proudly displayed on the front of their packaging, the answer to "Why vegan?" on the back.)

A representative from the company graciously wrote me back and asked if she could send me some samples. That was a no brainer.

So today I received four big Alternative Baking Co. cookies, with a handwritten card and sticker, in the mail.

Halleluljah!

They are:
Double Chocolate Decadence
Phenomenal Pumpkin Spice Cookie
Mac the Chip Cookie
Outrageous Oatmeal Raisin Cookie with Walnuts

After this Sangria buzz wears off, I'll cleanse my palate and start sampling.

I'm curious to know if anyone has enjoyed these as well. If so, please share.

I love the double chocolate. I was disappointed with the pumpkin (too sugary), and I can't detect coffee in the espresso one, but they're all pretty much good... I remember when the cookie-of-the-season was orange cranberry mookie. I'm not normally a fan, but it was sooo soooft.

Now I want cookies.

i've never heard of this company. where are they located out of?

Alternative Baking Co. is based in Sacramento, California. I expected a packaged vegan cookie to taste like cardboard and was pleasantly surprised by the sweet, moist taste.

I love the Lemon Poppysed ones too, mdvegan. It was one of the ones I had on my trip. Their Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip cookies are pretty damn good too. The coffeehouse worker said it was their bestselling cookie -- among vegans and nonvegans.

i love their cookies too!  i've been gettin gthe mac the chip flavor a lot lately, they have them at one of the coffee shops on my campus.
i was in love with these cookies long before i was ever a vegan, and now that i am, i find it absolutely thrilling that they basically outline the vegan philosophy on every wrapper!

I just came across these cookies! I had the Snickerdoodle and it was delish! In addition to the super yummy cookie, I felt just a wonderful warm glow when I saw that they not only label their cookies "vegan" but go the extra step and explain why on the back. I love it!

Lemon Poppyseed are my favorite by a landslide. some indie movie theaters around sell them!

Is Mac the Chip the one with the coconut?  Anything with coconut is my favorite.
Not to rain on anyone's parade, but I wouldn't make a habit out of these things.  Notice that the nutrition information says 1 cookie is 2 servings, which means that each cookie has around 480-500 calories!  Of course, there's nothing wrong with splurging once in awhile.

YIPE! I HATE it when companies do that. It's ridiculous. Like a bag of chips that is supposed to be 6 servings. Give me a break.  :P

Oh, the pumpkin one!!  I had a chocolate chunk, or something like that, and it was ok.  But the pumpkin was amazing.  I had to break it up and stash it in the freezer to *try* to keep the portions under control.

Yes, Mac the Chip cookie is labeled as the "'Killer' chocolate chip cookie with macadamia nuts and coconut." I can't wait to try ths one.

About the calorie content. Yes, that is correct. However, unlike most commercial brands, the company uses no hydrogenated oil, no artificial ingredients, no refined sugars.

Sure, one can buy the 100-calorie snack packs that are trendy right now, but many have hyrdrogenated oil and other crap as fillers. These fillers keep the calorie content low and extend the life of the packaged product. But if you have one too many they give you hips like ham hocks cause they're harder to digest.

That was a sweet thing for your anonymous friend to do.

anways, they might have 500 calories but if you eat a produce based diet, the extra calories aren't gonna hurt once in a while. not like we are all downing bacon and cheese three times a day.

True.  But <ahem> some of us love peanut butter and sweets a bit too much!

Yeah, but they're pretty big cookies. Not saying that I don't always eat the entire thing in one sitting.....but still, for those with willpower it could easily be halved and saved for later..... :P

You were right about the Mac the Chip cookie. Wow. The coconut complements the chocolate chips and macademia nuts nicely. Indeed, a sweet, dunkable cookie, rich in flavor with a moist inside. Since it is a big cookie, half the cookie dunked in milk was plenty for me. This cookie would fool any omni.

I was really impressed with Alternative Baking Company's Double Chocolate Decadence cookie. It really lives up to its name without being too rich. I'm really impressed that a packaged cookie, and one that is vegan, could taste so great...sweet, chocolatey and moist.

I was eating these on a pretty regular basis (the lemon poppy seed is amazing) when they first came out...then I looked at the calories. Because I do like, um, peanut butter (actually all nut butters), soy ice cream, and assorted other sweets I do have to watch it. Our local movie theatre sells them and I love that I can get a treat along with everyone else.

We LOVE ABC cookies - our favorites are Double Chocolate Decadence then Snickerdoodle. We always cook the cookie in the microwave for about 25 seconds, with a moist towel over it, to make it soft and seem fresh out of the oven! The chocolate cookie is sooo divine, like  brownie. We always share one, which turns out to be ~200 calories and a perfect evening snack.

We've tried almost all of the flavors. The cranberry orange seasonal cookie that they had earlier this year was also good. We recently tried some SunFlour Baking Co cookies and those don't par up to ABC cookies. We definetely think that the ABC cookies are the best store-bought cookies ever! You can keep the cookies in the freezer and then just defrost in the microwave when you want one.

Mac the Chip is great. It's got coconut flakes rolled in the dough to give it a special sweetness not found in most chocolate chip cookies. I also highly recommend the Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip and the Double Chocolate Decadence flavors.

I love these cookies! They used to sell them at my school but then they stopped. :( But they do sell them at Whole Foods. I'll have to pick up a Mac the Chip sometime. My faves are all the chocolate ones. Even the carob chip one is good. I also like the Peanut Peanut Butter ones. Dang, now I want one!

Are they the ones that make the little ginger, chocolate, and I think vanilla snaps that come in heart shapes? I love little cookies like that... with tea... mmm. I've never tried the brand though - and the other types of cookies your all talking about aren't available where I live.

Long live the ginger snap...
