The Rock-Your-Body Fitness Thread

We talk about health and exercise in a lot of different threads.  It's time for a one-stop shop.

As you all have read ad nauseam, I have a super slow metabolism so I'm always looking for ways to increase my fitness.

I'm going to join a gym next Wednesday (most likely).  Is it true that I should leave a day between working muscle groups?  I'll likely only be at the gym on Wednesdays and Thursdays, so I'm not sure what the best excercises are if I'm only going to be working that area once.  Like, Wednesday for legs or front and Thursdays for arms or back.  Something like that?  I'll have about an hour between work and when yoga starts and the gym will be relatively empty, so I'll have plenty of time and access to equipment.

----------

I recently read that dehydration leads to a drop on body temperature and a drop in temp triggers a body to store fat.  Of all the dagnabbit, underhanded, flea-analogue bitten things!  My normal temp is in the 97.1 - 97.3 F (36.2 - 36.3 C) range.

41 minutes sounds good to me!  I'm still on the 20 minute shred.

41 minutes sounds good to me!  I'm still on the 20 minute shred.

I'm trying to build up the courage to try the shred again.  I tried to do about a month ago and only lasted the first 5 minutes.  It felt like i had no muscles at all.

In the first few minutes after the warmup you have to do the squats and then push handweights up over your head.  If that's where you felt muscle-less (that's where I definitely feel muscle-less), it gets better after that move.  There's one more move, side lunges and bringing the hand weights to eye level that get me later on, but the rest of it gets easier after the first few days of doing it.  Those two are still hard for me.

Yesterday I did 12 min stretches, 20 min (20 reps for 2 sets) of weight lifting (biceps, abs x2, shoulder, back, triceps x2, shoulder) and then 7 miles on the bike.

I actually did my whole week workout for realz.  Im so proud of myself.  Today its kind of lazy but then faire from 3-7pm then onto the potluck in Albany.  So load of food but no workout. I am gonna have to push hard next week!

w00t!

I haven't accomplished sticking to my exercise goals for a full week.  Last night I drug myself home and crawled directly into bed, sans workout.  Go, cali!  Go, cali!

I did 20 minutes of cardio as soon as I got home yesterday. I am so proud of myself!

It's not much, but since I am just starting out I don't want to overdo it and get discouraged. My arms are still sore from the push-ups I did two days ago. But it's all going great!

I am so excited to fit into my little black dress that I wore on Josh & my first date 4 years ago.

I will do it!

LBD =  ^-^  That sore feeling will get better!  Just take it as knowing you are building muscles! ;)b

This thread is really inspiring!  DH and I are still doing P90X!  After today's yoga we'll have successfully completed 30 days!  Just 60 more to go!!  This Tuesday is when we weigh/measure ourselves... I'm curious to see what the progress is so far.  I'll be sure to post my stats!

Along with the P90X 6 days/week I've been running 4 days/week.  I signed up for a 1/2 marathon on November 15th!! ;)

What's P90X?

This is P90X.  It is a pretty extreme workout regime.  I still don't know what 'shred' is either??

The shred is short for Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred.  It's a three-tiered exercise video - easy, medium, and hard.  Each level is approximately a 20 minute workout consisting of three series of 3 minutes of strength, 2 minutes of cardio, and 1 minute of abs

What you're doing looks hella more kickass.

congrats, ac!

I'm joining a gym today.  I'm not going to do anything at it because I had food poisoning symptoms until around 8:30a this morning, but tomorrow it's on!

I think I've decided I officially hate Mondays at the gym. It's so ridiculously busy there on Monday evenings, because at the beginning of the week everyone seems to think once they've gone once then they are absolved of exercising responsibilities for the rest of the week... or something... because every other day it's sooooo much quieter. It's just really annoying to always have to wait for weights and benches and stuff.... buuuut, I also like going on Mondays to make sure I can get at least three visits in. Meh.

Ok, I can't walk. Seriously I can not bend my legs. It hurts...I hate squats! lol

I envy your wonky legs in that means you followed through on an intense workout.  I'm not doing anything, again, tonight.  I'm going to sleep at 6p.

So I tried it again yesterday and made it all the way through.  My left calf is killing me today...probably because I also did 46 minutes on the eliptical too.

Today I could only do 20 minutes on the eliptical due to the calf issue.  I think I'll try doing the shred again in the morning before i go to work and then use the eliptical after work.  Hopefully it won't bother me as much tomorrow.

While I did not work out Saturday or Sunday I did get in walking on Sat and just flexing muscles (while driving) on Sun.

Today I got up and dragged myself through my routine; 12 min stretching, 20 min weights and got 10 miles on the bike.  My goal is 12 miles tomorrow on the bike.  Well, and cleaning the house. hahahah!

I have heard the p90 is intense!  Way to go Lauren!

Wheee! I've worked out seven of the last eight days!

Monday: run (Couch-to-5k level 1) and shred (level 1), with some extra core thrown in
Tuesday: elliptical, 30 minutes of intervals
Wednesday: run (C25K1) and shred (L1), extra core
Thursday: elliptical, 30 minutes of intervals
Friday: at work until 8 PM... no working out :(
Saturday: run (C25K1)
Sunday: Shred (L1)
Today: run (C25K level 2)... trying to talk myself into shredding!

My goal is really to start fitting back into clothes. It's really bad.

Hey Lauren, I'm doing P90X, too! I love it!! But I'm not following the plan exactly. What I do is: Mondays - yoga; Tuesdays - I run (5-6 miles); Wednesday - one of the upper body workouts (ie. Shoulders & Arms); Thursday - I run (again, 5-6 miles); Friday - another upper body workout (ie. Kenpo or Chest/Shoulders/Triceps); Saturday - long run (8 miles); Sunday - rest or stretch. I am in awe of you running 4 days a week AND doing P90X 6 days! Where do you find time & energy!

But seriously, I love P90X! I've been doing it since April. Tony is such a tool though LOL. My DH and I are always saying things to each other like "look at these triceps..diamonds of gold!" and "we're supersonic X fit!!"  ;D If you're not laughing at him already, you will be after a few months!  ^-^

Is this your first half marathon? Which one are you doing?
