Raw Chit-Chat!

Hi everyone!

I'm planning on going raw for the entire month of August and I thought it would be great if we had a raw chit chat spot! I know a lot of other vegwebbers have expressed interest in either eating raw or going raw--so maybe we can help each other out here! I'm a total noob when if comes to raw, but I'm hoping my 30 day experiment will turn me into a master class raw veganist! I will be blogging everyday during August and posting pics and recipes of what I am eating--should be some great stuff plus all the "Raw Blogs" will be public!

I already have a bunch of questions! Can anyone help?

Raw milk--are there any store brands out there or do I have to make my own? Any super simple recipes for nut milk?
Dried sea weed (like wakame) how long do you soak it for?
I don't have a dehydrator and 150 is the lowest setting on my oven--how can I dry/toast oats, etc. and still have them be raw?
How the heck do I make sun tea?

OK then! That's what I got for now--I hope this can be a great place for raw info!!!

I want a juicer soooo bad! Are good ones remotely affordable?

If your definition of affordable is similar to mine, I'd have to say no, the really good ones are not affordable (see fay's assessment of cost above for my definition of not affordable).

That being said, I have a Jack La Lane centrifugal juicer (power juicer classic) and I'm not unhappy with it.  It is loud but it does a decent job and I found it at the Goodwill for $8.00 (they retail for $100.00).  It will never be up to par with a Breville or Omega, but you know what they say: beggars can't be choosers, so check out your local thrift stores.  My parents also found a Jack La Lane (power juicer delux) at a thrift store for $15.00.

agreed, check craigslist too, you'd be surprised that sometimes people Are selling brevilles and omegas for like 50 bucks.  My mom got a champion juicer at an auction for 10 bucks, so thats an option too.  I personally just don't like centrifugal juicers though, if my juicer separates I just cant drink it.
I bought a jacklalane juicer also, but if broke after a couple uses.
I agree with you though storm, my juicer is not affordable, it was a splurge purchase LOL

Hey guys, I've been neglecting this thread as much as I've been neglecting raw foods. I've been eating a huge salad for lunch every day and usually a smoothie for breakfast, with a cooked dinner. Today I had half of a pomegranate with half of the water out of a young coconut for breakfast, lunch will be a (not raw) taco salad. Raw pad thai for dinner!

I'm in the market for an excalibur and omega right now.

Here's to hoping my boyfriend gets me that Vitamix I've been asking him for since my birthday LAST year. Come on, Mrs Base!

Damn Base!  If you get all three of those I'm going to be so jealous!
