Is anyone else here doing this? Or interested in doing this?

My boyfriend and I just started today. It's not something where you only drink liquids! I could not handle that. It's basically a lot of green smoothies/juices, raw foods, huge salads, some supplements, meditation, yoga, and daily exercise.

Anyway, if anyone else has done it or is doing it: hi! Let me know what you think/thought and I'll definitely post about my experience with the cleanse in here. So far, so good, but it's only 10 a.m. on the first day. Woo! Let's do this! (Oh, and I'm not at all affiliated with Kris Carr, I just wanted to do the cleanse!)

JessaCita, Thanks for all your advice. I am really excited about all the different and unique recipes. Just found out how easy seitan is to make and having a wonderful time with all the different tasteful recipes. Finally got my interloan library book, "The Ultimate Uncheese Book" and can't wait to dive into those recipes...so many recipes, so little time :)>>>

Yes, congrats 4mbabies, and I agree with Jess, if you think getting going on the cleanse will be one more health thing to be excited about, why not! I think it depends on how you make big changes as an individual, many people change a little at a time, while others, like myself, need to be a but more all or nothing.  For me, it helps keep me motivated and "in the zone" to do things all at once/ cold turkey.   And just like Jess said, if you try it for a bit and start feeling too overwhelemed maybe take a break from it and just focus on being vegan for a while...You could also pick pieces of it you like, (like the smoothies or juices) and incorrpurate them into your daily routine, but hold off on other aspects that sound too overwhelming...

the only other part of I can think of that might feel "complicated" is cutting out/down soy and gluten at the same time as cutting out meat/dairy/eggs can be kinda hard....when I first went vegan I did so without those foods due to my daughter's allergies, and it made being vegan seem a lot "harder/limited" than it really was.  But, it also forced me to eat a lot of beans, quinoa, and whole foods, so it wasn't all a bad thing either.

either way it sounds like a nice healthful start to your vegan journey! Welcome!

Thanks babysgotsauce for your encouragement and helpful tips. And thanks for the Welcome:) Everyone on VW seems so nice and caring :)>>>

You're most welcome!  :)

I loooove The UnCheese Cookbook!  It was one of the first vegan cookbooks I bought (like 5 years ago), but I only started experimenting with the recipes over the last year or so.  I don't know what took me so long, but there are some GREAT recipes in there!

Yes, I think I have The Ultimate UnCheese Cookbook, and love it (I don't think there are many differences between the two)!

I have my juicer and am LOVING green juice! I have continued to make kale/blueberry smoothies as well, I share one with Kea each night to get some kale in her!
The green juice is great, I was thinking it would be a bit more "acquired" of a taste, but I loved it right away!

I really love the Portwine Uncheese Recipe in that cookbook.I'm going to freeze the leftovers and then melt it into my homemade canned spaghetti sauce when I make lasagna the next time ^-^

I can't bring myself to try a "Green Juice", but I have gotten hooked on WFS recipe for a smoothie of almond milk, berries and spinach. The berries turn the drink a really dark purple so even though it's got spinach in it, I don't considerate "Green" :-D

Interesting point: during the three weeks that I did this I didn't have to take my arthritis meds once.  Hmmmmm.......

Ooh, wow, Storm!  That's amazing!  Do you think it was the gluten or what?  Combination of everything?  You're already pretty high raw, so that's surprising to me!

I have heard from a few people who find that avoiding gluten really helps their arthritis symptoms.

That's fantastic Storm, it's got to be something that you cut out. Have you ever had an allergy test for gluten ^-^

No, I've never had an allergy test, but I think it must be the gluten.  I've been holding steady at about 80% raw but I do include bread in that other 20%.  I had never heard about the gluten-arthritis connection so I've been doing a little research and apparently over 50% of people with arthritis exhibit gluten sensitivity!  I have ordered a book called Dangerous Grains to read more, but I'm thinking I need to ditch the bread all together....which really sucks because I love warm, vegan, unbuttery bread.

Don't they make a gluten free bread? I was thinking I saw some but it was so expensive :o

Whole Foods has one that I tried during the 3 weeks and boy did it suck!  It was dry and disintigrated like saw dust.  Nasty stuff for $5.00.  Blue Diamond has some really awesome gluten-free crackers that I just started buying, but they just don't take the place of a nice warm slab of bread.  Oh well, what can you do?

Oooo, thanks flyreggiefly.  I had forgotten about Ezekiel, I think they do make gluten-free bread.  I know the tortillas are gluten-free.

We're gearing up for the cleanse - starting next Sunday.  We're phasing in green juice, Teechino (for coffee), and experimenting with new preparations of brown rice and quinoa.  Starting tomorrow, we're cutting caffeine by 50%, cutting down on agave, and trying to avoid pasta, white rice, and processed veggie meats.

Does anyone have menu suggestions for lunch and dinner?  I want to plan out at least a week's worth of food and do as much advance prep as possible, since a baby makes it really hard to get into the kitchen for more than 15 minutes.

I'm very excited and very nervous at the same time!

Ooo...I'm so excited for you ;)b

Maybe it will grow on you, mdv.  (And then again, maybe not!)  If you want to try all veggie juice, go for it.  My favorite green juice blend is cucumber, romaine, spinach, parsley, kale stems (I cook with the leaves then juice the stems), green apple, and lime.  Sometimes celery is good, too, but other times I find that it adds a bit too much of a "salty" flavor.

You might also not like the flavor of chard when it's juiced.  Personally, I love eating chard, but I think the taste of it when juiced is vile.

Or is it maybe because I'm breastfeeding and don't get much sleep with a little baby?

This!  ^  Honestly, I was surprised that you wanted to undertake this cleanse with a newborn.  I didn't want to discourage you, but if you're not feelin' it, just do what you can & skip the rest!  A little coffee won't undo all the good you're doing by following some of the principles.

mdv, it sounds too me like this is too big of a restriction for you (i don't think it has to be, but it sounds like your normal diet is pretty different and it's stressing you out)... #1 priority is to EAT, especially since you are breastfeeding! I'm sure it's lack of food and exhaustion that is making you want to pass out. I don't know anything about this cleanse, but is fruit restricted in any way? perhaps you can make a big banana smoothie in the morning (8+ bananas) and put your green juice in that? You won't be able to taste the green juice so much, still getting all of the nutrition from it, but also getting what you REALLY need which is calories.

Storm, I bought gluten-free millet bread by Food for Life (brand that makes Ezekiel), and it is AMAZING!  It's expensive (I think $5.50 for a loaf - 16 slices) - but I LOVE it.  My co-op has it on sale for $4 this month, so I think I am going to stock up.

I know this thread hasn't been touched in a couple months. However I just found it and I just got the book. I haven't started the cleanse yet but I am going to soon. Very soon plus I will be blogging about it everyday. :)>>>
