Constipation...continued Any advice or ideas

Remember my poll?? I really did that because I am SO frustrated.

I eat a 99% vegan diet.  TONS of water nothing else expect peppermint tea.  Rarely eat processed food...mostly fruits, veggies, tofu, eczekial tortillas.  Rarely grains. Limited beans lately causing gas. Ground flaxseed, soy yogurt, raisins represent my diet.

I do eat low fat/oil...so I have been taking having a tbls of oil a day with ground flaxseed and sometimes pumpkin seeds..I do LOVE nayosaise dijon mayo which has sunflower oil ..trying to add avocado.

Problem is since I basically only go 1X a day I tend to feel full very quickly from eating  since I'm not eliminating which is frustating cause I like ot eat.

My diet is naturally high fiber.  I tried prune juice (bloated me), ground flaxseed (not sure if its making it worse?) eating all the foods that supposed to help.

Before swtiching to a vegan diet I used to have small hard pellets...which I still occasionally do.

I have been eating vegan for over a year and vegetarian for 3yr.  This WAS a problem my whole life but my diet is so healthy now...really no junk!

My bf on the otherhand goes after EVERY meal and even though he eats a vegan diet I eat much more healthier than him...Who knew I could be jealous because of this?

I want to heal naturally...i already have done colonics, juice fasts, etc to no avail. Well actually my bm are longer but I KNOW I am not going enough.

I also suffer from eczema which I firmly believe is tied to constipation.

I am going to start juicing 2X a day beets, carrots, spinach and dandelion all good for constipation/liver.  I'm also going to try triphala which is supposed to be good and possibly yellowdock.

Any ADVICE??? This has got me literally in tears!  :'( :'(

How 'bout a salt water flush to get you back on track?

Mix 2 teaspoons of unprocessed sea salt (like Real Salt or something) with 2 quarts of lukewarm water.  Drink the whole think on an empty stomach.  Some references say to lie on your right side for 30 minutes afterwards, but it's not a consistent recommendation.  In an hour or two you should have some action.

I think you said you went to a doctor about this, but just in case...go get checked out.  :)

No I haven't tried licorice tea....is it good for that?

Going once a day in NOT good. (its not a lot either)

Sometimes I try to go a 2nd time and maybe a pebble goes out.  I can "feel" it (sorry!).

I'll try cihia seeds.

I can clean myself out with colonics but it doesnt matter. I still get constipated afterwards dragonfly.  I think I am going to completely cut out most wheat gluten as well.  I heard wheat can slow you down.

I ONLY drink water at room temp.

SOMETIMES warm water drunk quickly  (tea) works sometimes not.

K2 I like the idea of having stewed prunes with the soy yogurt! I have been eating raisins but not stewed.

I keel thinking whats wrong with me.  I want to "go" naturally.

Please keep the good ideas coming!

Yeah if your not going alot it's not good. I say cut out the tea and the tortillas for about a week and see if there's a difference.

Also try I say whenever you drink water freeze the glass full of water for about 10 15 minutes then drink it real cold. I know that helps sometimes.

I say also go to the doctor make sure everything is okay in the system first.

thanks for the adivce guys!

No its not cause I'm eating so healthy...when I have had colonics TONS and TONS of stuff comes out...amazing amounts!

I don't like/drink coffee

I was thinking about going to an herbalist or naturopath but I dont think there covered by insurance..are they?

I'm off to buy triphala which is supposed to help and I'll buy chorophyll too. I'm also goona drink spinach and beet juice..I heard that helps

I was always constipated as a child (as my mom was...but she ate horribly!) and the doc was really ignorant about it.

However my diet is COMPLETELY different now and I drink water A LOT!

The suggestions I read I'll try.  At this point...I'll eat/try anything.

Funny thing..After I swore off wheat/potatoes  for a while to see if that would help  I had a dream where I was eating bakery pastries until my stomach hurt.  I guess its cause I said I was going to cut gluten out of my diet.  ::)

I know I'll get blasted by someone for saying this, but....

When I said go get checked out by a doctor, I meant an MD, not a Herbalist/naturopath.  It might even be good to get 2 opinions, especially if the person doesn't seem to be thorough.  It sounds like you've covered the "natural remedy" stuff.  (I worry about all the colonics...I'm not sure how healthy those really are.)  I think you need to have a real doctor check you out to make sure nothing is really wrong with your body.  Alternative mechine is cool and helpful, but it's not a substitute for western medicine.  Just my 2cents...

(Want you to be safe!)  ;)

Yeah the chlorophyll is pretty awesome, it doesnt make you go out of control or anything it kinda just regulates you.  I would say it takes maybe a couple of days to actually kick in, after that if you drink it consistently I would say once or twice a day around the same time everyday it'll be smooth sailing...i know this is going to sound a little weird, but let me know if it works for you, all the people who I know that use it really like it!  Good Luck! :)

Works for me:

bananas (I know they're also for diarrhea, but I think they regulate either way. at least for me...)
sweetened coffee
walnuts
waiting 1 hour + after waking up before eating (i have no idea how that works)
and, i've found just by being a squatting position (thanks, yoga!), it makes me need to "go"...

once a day is supposed to be fine, but I know what you mean. I never had an issue with constipation, but it only started up in the past few years (and just every now and then). You might be going every day, but it might not be much and too hard. And you still feel yucky. Sometimes just taking a long walk shakes things up (so to speak  ::) ).

I would steer clear of laxatives, unless you really, really need it (like not going any more often than every three days or so). They're "addictive" in that, once you start using them, you may stay constipated without them. It's one of those weird things, like chapstick addiction; once you use an artificial lubricant, you're body won't make any more!  >:(

You might be intaking TOO MUCH fiber...

perhaps add some well known "stimulants" such as prunes, apricots, etc.

I had big problems with this a couple of years ago..it felt like I was passing glass (sorry if that's TMI). The ONLY thing that helped me was to start eating a salad with both lunch AND dinner. A good raw salad with carrots, cucumbers, celery, tomatoes, etc. After a week or so, things started going back to normal. I have continued eating salads almost every day since then and it has helped tremendously - and if I go a few days without one, I definitely start to notice that BM's become more difficult and painful.

Before I figured out the "salad solution," I was eating a ton of grainy fiber - oats, brans, whole wheat pastas, etc. - and I do believe that these kinds of foods were making my condition worse. Yes, it's fiber, but I find I do much much better getting my fiber from veggies. And I do find that drinking warm beverages (coffees, teas, etc.) can help get things moving.

Back when I was a smoker I found that if I had a ciggie with my morning tea I would only get half way through the damn thing before I was having to run for the nearest crapper. If I didn't have a smoke in the morning, nothing! Now I know there is all kinds of bad stuff in cigarettes but laxative I was unaware of!

Now I find the best form of inducing a crap is to take the dog for a walk before my breakfast. The second I get to the furthest point from my house I'm practically touching cloth instantly. If your ever in Glen Ellyn between 5am and 6am and see a distinguished and handsome English Gent walking slightly strange with a little dog leading the way, that is me!

Also if your one of the park landscapers at Lake Ellyn and you found a surprise in the mulch on the west side of the lake next to Glenbard West High School, I'm sorry I couldn't make it back, again if your the owner of the nice big house on Western, between Elm and Linden, with the waist high privet hedge in the front of your yard again I apologize if you found a turd behind the hedge back in November 2006, I couldn't make it back and I had used up my last poo bag on the dog not 5 minutes earlier... ohh and thank you for not being early raisers!  ;)

Cardio work-outs and coffee keep me very regular.  Especially the exercise, if I just have coffee everyday I do poop nicely (substantial amounts), but the exercise makes me go twice which is nice. :-)  Actually, sometimes I don't care for coffee and I still poop nicely once I exercise.

If I don't do cardio and drink coffee, then I poop every other day (which depresses me) with "iffy" amounts (sometimes a lot, sometimes not.)

One thing I've noticed though is that you mention how much you eat this and that and everything healthy.  I'm wondering,(though it may not be the case at all), do you eat too much stuff?  Are you cramming too many fibrous things into your system and cementing off the pasage?

Anyway, I do think you should consult someone more qualified so that you can get some real relief ASAP.  I HATE to be constipated.

wow... I have been going once, sometimes twice a day for as long as I can recall, and I had NO idea that was considered unhealthy! Any more than that and I think maybe I've overeaten. I've never felt the least bit constipated except for one mysterious dry spell that lasted 3 days. My appetite seems normal, I eat tons of fiber and I rarely have digestive trouble.

Should I start worrying, or just assume that it's normal for me?

it's probably normal for you, i wouldn't worry about it. especially if you don't feel constipated.

Sigh...I wish I was cramming a lot of food!! :D

No I eat normal meals.  Not high fiber stuff I think....tomatoes, zucchini, watermelon, tofu, eczekial bread, grapes, potatoes, soy yogurt,
not tons of greens or tons of raw. I mean my eating isn't "perfect" but I tend to gravititate towards unprocessed foods.

I usually go in the am....

This works everytime for me ...

Psyllium Husks.

3 tablespoons over the course of a day in a glass of water, followed by another glass of water.

So, 1 tablespoon of the husks in a glass of water, followed by another glass of water before Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.

I was constipated from fertility drugs and pain killers and it works a treat.

Once or twice a day being unhealthy?? ??? I've never heard that... Everyone's different, and I would think as long as you go at least once a day (regularly; of course it will very every now & then), that's fine.
