Strange question on the effects of gin...

Something on another thread reminded me of a question I wish I could ask someone, so I'll ask it here:

When I first came to Europe in the late 70's and early 80's, the "cool drink" was gin and tonic, or gin and lemon. I like gin and lemon, but when I drink gin, my whole personality changes. I become sarcastic, nasty and unpleasant. I will say things that I regret later. Sometimes they were things that needed to be said, but not that way. And sometimes it's almost like my evil twin takes over. Solution: I no longer drink the stuff. But why does it do that? People say my whole physical bearing changes. What is that?

I've heard of this happening to different people with different alcohols, I mean alcohol affects your inhibitions and disposition, so I guess some people are susceptible to certain drinks that can affect them in a bad way, just like some people ALWAYS have a great happy night on beer but spew on bourbon... some people get angry on whiskey, some people get emotional on red wine. I can't explain it all science like, but I guess body chemistry is different.

I always heard gin was the "sit on the stairs crying" drink haha but it never affected me that way. It's just crazy what our bodies do!

I have no idea why it happens either.

Gin makes me cry and cry and cry.  Even if I'm not drunk.  One gin will make me cry.

Aftershock makes me eeeevvvviiiilllll!  Seriously.  If I have any aftershock, I'll try to pick fights, swear at people (ok I swear allt he time anyways, but not normally to total strangers unprovoked), generally be a really horrible person.  Sometimes I'll remember what I've done, but most of the time I don't.
I no longer even entertain the idea of having Aftershock.

I know that Stella Artois is known as wifebeater here (and more so in Scotland it seems) as it makes lots and lots of people angry.  It doesn't affect me that way though.

"Aftershock"? Well if you ask me, the problem's expressed in the name. It hits you like an earthquake!
I had no idea that Stella Artois had that effect. It's a beer, isn't it? Maybe that's why you never see it in Spain anymore.
Lord, it makes you wonder what they put in this stuff! I know VanGogh is supposed to have cut his ear off under the influence of absinthe, which was illegal in Europe until just a few years ago.

What you are describing sure sounds like the effects of female hormones (nothing sexist intended). Gin contains juniper. Juniper has been used for centuries to induce childbirth and menstruation. So a drinking gin makes you literally. . . premenstrual.

Whisky does that to me. I become a cold hearted WITCH! It is awful. I get a huge potty mouth (and I hardly ever swear IRL). I have been known to throw things. And I just get really angry and mean in general. ESPECIALLY, if I mix it with beer. I keep thinking oh I can have a shot of Whiskey in between my beers or just a sip here, but no. Just a little bit effects me. So just give it a wide birth.

Other than that most other alcohols just make me super friendly and incredibly chatty. Who knows? I wonder if there is some chemical biological reaction that occurs in people with certain drinks. I certainly do not know.

Now you got me curious about gin, I don't think I ever got drunk on gin...or have I?  Ugh, the  problem with getting older is you live too much and forget half of the life you lived!

Wine make me VERY lovable, I love everyone when I drink wine, if I am with my mom I am like: "I love you mom, I always love you, I don't think I tell you enough how much I love you..."  My mom is just like "yes dear, now come over here and sit down for awhile and drink this glass of water for me."

Hurricanes make me HORNY!  I was with my mom down in New Orleans and we got drunk on Hurricanes and then went to a strip club with male strippers and my mom got me a lap dance...it got out of hand and my mom threatened to shoot the guy...

Wiskey makes me HYPER!  I dance everywhere.  I got drunk on wiskey for the Millenium celebration and I was dancing with everyone, even the cops...

Rum makes me fall asleep

Tequilla and mescal makes me puke, only one shot and I am barfing my brains out...

But I haven't tried gin.

I don't know about Gin, but I agree with the theory that different types of alcohol affect you differently. I am fine drinking anything except tequila. If I drink tequila, I become a horny slut...lol. My husband only lets me drink tequila at home ;)

I am in agreement on the varying effects.

I wish I had some more booze rite nao. :( Yes, ANY kind.
