Reasons to whine

I feel like "reasons to frown" is for more serious business, and "grind your gears" is for genuine, deserved anger.

This is for whining, especially about petty things. Complaints, bitching and moaning welcome.

My reasons to whine:

I'm back in school starting today, and it's a sort of orientation week. As usual, it's pretty pointless. I could be sleeping!

My sheese has a spot of mold on it! I opened it a couple days ago, and it's best by date is Aug 5. >:( (I cut that part off, and am now enjoying some sheese)

yg, i am familiar with the "GTFO purr" (the newly trapped ferals do that all the time :>), but when I get her purring she does seem into the petting (squinting and lifting the butt and all), but she's simultaneously looking for a wait out. like if i don't have an arm around her, she starts shifting around and BOOM! kitteh is gone, despite how happy-ish she seemed.

RTW: I am catching cold. I know my resistance must be superlow because I'm exhausted after two months of all this. But heck I still have 2 weeks to get through. Well ten days. But really, I need a break.
Way before the Eye Incident, I was telling DH how badly I needed a vacation, and looked forward to an empty August. And then all hell broke loose. By contrast, if he gets his life back on Sept 15th and  I don't have to do every single thing myself, it will feel like I'm on vacation...but I'll probably have to do classes by then.
Crap.
If it weren't for VegWeb I would go stark, staring melancholy mad.

Just back from the DR AGAIN.  BP doing better but not good enough.  Hernia showed up really good on CT scan so insurance will cover a 2nd surgery to repair it AGAIN.  Coughing (which tore out the original hernia repair) is better but not gone.  Must be allergies in spite of perscription meds.  Only allergy med that works is sudafed which is perscription only in OR and raises BP.  Oh, and the sore hip is bursitis.  Can't have a steroid shot since I got one in the other hip 4 months ago for bursitis there so I have a new script for an NSAID.  At least it is "only" pain and not anything structurally damaged.

woah, thanks guys...I can't believe anyone read my boring long rant!

I don't directly work with this woman, she's in another dept in the hospital.  Supplies is well known to be very poor at our hospital.  Like running out of a particularly important fluid and not bothering to find a replacement, and only letting people know when it's needed in the middle of surgery.  So not an important time or anything.

I don't understand how this particular dept can be allowed to continue to work so poorly, but some how they do and nothing is ever done about them.

My suggestion:  It sounds like you have a lot of oral conversations and she probably wouldn't respond to email, so after you speak with her, send a confirmation email regarding the topic, commitments, and commitment dates to her and her boss.  At least you'd have a paper trail if you need to nail her ass to the wall later on.

yep, done that.  Her boss doesn't care either.

I meant to include your boss (her and both bosses).

Or copy your boss, then go to your boss (even before hand) and indicate that it may have to be forwarded to her boss - by your boss! These are fights for the bosses, that is why that are in their pay grade. It will have lots more weight coming from your boss to her boss than you cc/bcc-ing anyone, imho.

My rec. is when you word it for your boss on the cc, to make it seem helpful (truly) and not just complaining. "Is there anything I can do to ensure we this/that/the other gets done so that I can complete this/that/the other in a timely manner?" It could backfire as bitchy, if not worded as helpful.

I have found the above approach serves many more purposes than a cc/bcc to the other's boss, not the least of which I get to find out if my boss has any balls. It is important to find this out FIRST before I stake out my hill to die on, cause if I have a "chickenstuff" boss who will not go to bat for me, I do NOT want to fight with other bosses in other departments, even my boss will want me out EVEN IF I am by far a better worker.

If my boss will not go to bat, then my number one task is to build my relationship with my boss, not to critique other boss' employees.

My two cents on workplace politics, and how to avoid the "now my boss hates me too" backfire.

I feel like I just climbed to a mountaintop.  I'm keeping that in mind for later use.

LOL. I am actually a little ashamed to admit I can think this ruthlessly. Also, it took 15 years to learn, but only 15 minutes to write out. I feel short changed.

But that is why I build my relationship with my boss from day one. Without a solid, resiliant relationship with my boss, I have to pretty much suck on anything that comes down the pike. Also, this is why I got killed at workplace politics - I only practiced these types of politics when I had to, others did them in their sleep because they wanted to, and thus were much more deadly at it. Every trap I alluded to above I have fallen into, fo sho!

hmm, that would be useful EXCEPT my boss has already spoken to her boss.  There has been these email conversations, we've approached them directly in person, by telephone and still there's this problem.
Her boss has also been spoken to by the director for anaesthesia about this and another problem, and the chair of the medicines committee and yeah we're still in this situation, and the chief medical officer.  I DO NO UNDERSTAND HOW SHE CAN STILL HAVE A JOB!

boss has already spoken to her boss

Then unfortunately anything you do on your own (without direct consent/request from your own boss) now jeopardizes your relationship with your boss. They may be building a case against her (or even you), as they have to cover bases with HR (<--not sure what it is called in NZ). Once it is in the bosses' hands, we have to back off and work closely with our boss to ensure we are doing the best job possible.

What is my #1 job as a human? To help others.

What is my #1 job to an employer? To make my boss look good to their boss.

To the extent that these two things collide I will face pain where I work.

I DO NO UNDERSTAND HOW SHE CAN STILL HAVE A JOB!

Ah, I hear that! But we can spend years molling this over, even as we stand in the unemployment line. Sometimes some of the best people and workers I have ever seen got fired, while the run of the mill get promoted. Until one has felt the pain/confusion of being the far better employee but still getting canned, while the other deadbeat gets promoted, does one realize that really the best approach to all of this is to be a humble, hard worker, someone who cares about the work and helps others as much as possible. With this, even if I get the boot, I do so with dignity, which is perhaps worth more than winning at politics - a game at which there is always someone better!

shell that is so stupid! you did your job though and i would save everything so if they try to point the finger at you show them how you emailed the bitch 30 times... it's obviously her fault... that's why i prefer email so i have it all documented... as an accountant, people will throw your ass under the bus when shit hits the fan so i never do anything without my bosses written/ emailed consent...

my rtw: i paid $3 for a bag of Gardein chicken tenders and i over cooked them :( i am really bummed cause i'm super broke right now so i just wasted money on a "luxury item" that i didn't even get to enjoy...

Get out of my head!! I feel like the Truman Show, now!

I really need to get my room cleaned in the next hour. I squatted down to put something away, there was a loud pop, and my knee hurts. I took some Alene and rested it for ten minutes. I also put my heavy duty knee brace on. It still hurts considerably, and I need to clean! We have someone coming to assess our house today.
