Reasons to smile

I guess not everyone needs to find a reason, but... What made you smile and/or laugh today?

My first LOL of the day was caused by this LOLdog.

I went to the uniform laundry room at work yesterday, to ask if I could try on a size smaller in my trousers. And they fit! The laundry lady asked me if I needed a new shirt, too, so I tried the next size down in that, too. And it fit! Wow. My pants had been slipping down my hips a little for weeks, but last week they got ridiculously slippy. So happy to have confirmation that my body's changing shape/size a little. :iloveyou:

Humming along to the occasional good song at work... it's amazing how much it can lift my mood. ;)b

Overhearing customers' reactions when they can't decide whether flowers are real or not. It's hilarious either way - when they think fake are real, or real are fake. ;D

I got a new journal. Not for poetry or for me confessing shit or for me to gossip. My focus will be my philosophies on life. I figure every intellectual writes down his/her philosophies, why not the intellectual writings of JFM? Plus, I know you all are getting bored reading my thoughts. I hope to explore some inspiring territories as I write. :)

There's no way we are bored!! I really enjoy sharing your thoughts. You are one of the few people who really *should* have a blog.

I don't know about all that. Hahaha! But thank you for your love and encouragement, Yabbit. I'm going to work on your letter. :)

My RTS: I talked to Storm on the telephone today. I had a rough night last night but today my roommate and I went to a local family-owned arcade. I earned enough tickets to buy a whoopie cushion. lolol

So..I asked out a girl this morning. A girl who said she wanted to go out but then changed her mind when I asked. Rejected. Again. The usual.

But fear not, fellow VegWebbers!!! I'm not beating myself up over this (as I have in the past). I talked to my friend Rachel, took a walk, went to Target, listened to music & took a light jog. I say light jog because the support in my current shoes are not for running (they're barely good enough for long walks). Anyhow! I've come to the conclusion that I'm not going to invest all this time and energy in finding a girlfriend or a date. I've got shit to do. Sure, I work and go to school..that's all.

But you know what else I do? I help and talk to people via Skype, text, phone, email, mail, messages and in-person. This is what gets me moving and gets me high. I've got to keep doing this. Love is love and shouldn't be focused solely on trying to date someone that may or may not be interested. It needs to be shared and put into something productive like exploring the inner and outer world..even if it's just in your local community.

Sure, I get lonely as f**k sometimes but (if I ever find a dating partner or gf) I need someone to join me in my quest that's in-stride or willing to get in-stride. I can't chase her down or try to catch her up. I've got more important things to do. My work isn't done.

That said, I feel great.

Life is good. :D

More smiles!

I surprised a customer today when I sang Grover Washington Jr.'s song "Just the Two of Us" with her. I really surprised her when I guessed it was Al Green. Even though I guessed wrong, she was like "You're too young!! What do you know about Al Green??" Hahaha! Last week, I had an old couple (about 70 years old) come into the restaurant and we talked about music from the 40's and 50's.

I remember, in 2007, when I worked with a retired professor. He and I shared higher level jokes and commentary and talked about all sorts of things.

I love when I can surprise people and humbly carry my own with conversation about different topics......especially when they think a youngin' wouldn't be able to do so. :)

Maybe you shouldn't leave your furniture on the front lawn. Hehe! I kid. :P

My RTS: I'm listening to the playlist put together by iTunes named "Goth". I'm loving it. Where's my black makeup? :)

I have a friend in El Paso that brought me some dried chilies, not fresh, and I'm still using them they are so hot.

Fresh....dried....it's all good!  I'll take chiles any way I can get them!  It was good timing too because most of my plants aren't at production stage yet.  I'm getting a few habs, lemon drops, and serranos from older plants, but it's going to be a little while before my babies are producing.  And Tweets, I haven't forgotten that I promised you fresh chiles once I'm up to my eyeballs in them!

I presented two posters at my school's Student Scholar Symposium today. I talked to a lot of people from a lot of different departments (I hate talking to people, so it's sort of a big deal to me). I had some good conversations and comments on my research. I wasn't even self-conscious about it because we were talking about things where I am the expert, the one with all the information.

Also, VegWeb was down when this went on, so I couldn't talk about it then, but I did a poster presentation for the Georgia Academy of Science last month. I held the audience's attention for the whole 10 or 15 minutes and got some good feedback and questions.

I'm actually really proud of myself for getting out there and talking about things to strangers.

Well done, Courth!!

My RTS: DH has been buying "whole wheat" sliced bread for a few weeks. I eat it because the slices are about the right size (bread intake severely restricted), but it's meh.
This week he didn't buy it. When I asked he said, "I read the label and there are too many additives in it."
YAY!! He's learning!!

w00t to Storm!

RTS:  Spent a nice 5-hour afternoon with the sister having lunch...then we went to the Indian market, Asian market and Whole Foods......serious shopping going up and down every aisle looking at stuff.  It was fun.

I love Asian/Indian markets!!
RTS: The doctor tweaked my thyroid medication juuuust a little (like 8 mg) and it makes all the difference in the world. I am no longer freezing cold and tired all the time, and the constant hungry feeling is gone! Also found out the sore arm is a rotator cuff problem and the exercises are really helping!!

YAY!!!!!! Those thyroid meds make SUCH a difference!! I'm feeling pretty well on the dose I'm on now (200 whopping mcg), although my doc may have to tweak it a bit when I start eating a bit of soy each week... He seems to think it'll be alright though as long as I eat it more than 4 hours after my meds (aka at supper time).

Thank goodness for VW and Internet...my stupid Spanish doctors know nothing but nothing about nutrition, and they said that as long as I waited 30 min, I could eat tofu whenever, which I knew was wrong. Same with soy isoflavones which are fashionable here. Take em any time, it makes no difference. Uh, no?

-_- Crazy doctor.  Well my thyroid meds act as my anti-cancer medication (they keep my hyper-thyroid to keep the cancer cells from being stimulated to grow), so my doctor (thyroid oncologist) is pretty friggin' crazy about how I have to take my medicine.  He gave me a 4 page handout. o_O.  I am going to triple check the soy thing with him  I eat it because welll......cancer sucks and I want those buggers dead or sleeping, but here are some other tips you may  or may not know:

Take it at the same time every morning, with a glass of water, take it at least 4 hours before you consume any iron supplements, calcium- rich foods (like milk), or soy (although I  have my calcium maybe 1-2 hours after my pill consistently so that my dosage is adjusted for it when they check my levels), store your meds in a dry spot (not the bathroom), and do not store your medicine in any temperature in which a chocolate bar will melt.  If it is hot enough to melt a chocolate bar, it is hot enough to de-activate your pills. Thyroid meds are very temperature sensitive.

Hope that was helpful :) :)

It is, I had no idea about the temperature thing! We now have AC in the room I store my pills in but if it gets hot before we turn it on, those puppies are goin' in the fridge! I didn't know about the calcium thing either. There's a conventional wisdom thing here that diet doesn't affect thyroid, that there is no "thyroid diet" etc.

Yesterday I woke up at 3.30 AM. Even in spite of a cup of real coffee and 2 cups of tea, by 9 PM I was nodding, so I went to bed. Slept until 8 AM with no help.
Yum.

There are three new cookbooks headed my way: The Sexy Vegan Cookbook, Big Vegan, and Vegan Diner.  You can't have too many vegan cookbooks.
