Reasons to make the O_o Face
There are times when you read, see or hear something that just makes you :o. This is the thread to share them on!
The other day I don't know where I stumbled on a thread discussing the Nancy Drew novels. I remembered how much I loved them and I did a little research...which led me to the original publishers, who also published the Hardy Boys and the Bobbsey Twins. All written by a cadre of ghost writers under cover names. Then I found a link to an audio book of one of the Bobbsey Twins stories, which I loved when I was a kid. I listened to it for old times' sake. The :o happened when the author described little Flossie-aged-four's collection of dolls, among which was a black Sambo doll given to her by the family's "coloured cook Dinah, and her husband the stableman, Sam." Who had "excellent rooms above the stables." They had given her this black worsted ragdoll (named Jujube) which she kept with her other dolls..."but apart, at the other end of the shelf, and with a nice piece of white pasteboard in between--because, well, he wasn't really family."
The story goes on to state that Flossie had thought about giving Jujube away but didn't want to hurt Dinah's feelings; "and after all, as Mamma said, there weren't any doll hospitals for black orphan dolls."
No wonder the Bobbsey Twins books went out of fashion. Nancy Drew is still available today...but then there was nothing like that in them.
So, VWers, what made you :o today?
haha, I completely forgot I posted this.
Most of the glass just went on the floor, but some of it got in the walls.
It's the glass itself. Sometimes "tempered" glass isn't really. This happens here in Spain with a brand of drinking glasses called Duralex. Microwave safe etc but once in awhile one will just go postal.
this is like Arcoroc glasses/mugs here. They are indestructible, you can bounce them on concrete and they won't break, then one day, they just explode into tiny pebbles of glass...
Scary thing here is that we've got three more tables exactly the same, and they guys just shrinkwrapped the glass so that if/when they blow the glass will be contained, but I'm still kinda scared! Good thing I only go into the kitchen to fill up my water anyway.
My baby started crawling yesterday. :o Nothing will ever be safe again.
whoa, just read about the exploding glass table. craziness!
the family I work for just makes me :o and ??? every day by
~putting newspaper on the floor under the daughter's seat so they don't have to clean the floor
~stacking plates of uncovered leftovers in the fridge and leaving them there for days to dry out
~letting the trash overflow with dirty diapers
~having 24 toothbrushes in use in the bathroom
~having a 3rd child when they talk about not having enough time to clean, space for their kids to sleep in other than the livingroom, or money to pay me more.
but they do have a lot of love, i'll give them that. and i guess that's what's most important.
oh, and in terms of the mess- they tell me not to clean. once i unloaded the dishwasher so that i could put away the dirty dishes and that evening they sent me an email telling me not to do things like that. i'll sweep and wipe the table and stuff, but i couldn't even begin to tackle everything. so i just play with their little girl. and nap.
That is totally weird! Even when I used to babysit my cousins I would clean and it's common knowledge that if you don't clean while babysitting than you're seen as a slob.
I have never heard of babysitters seen as slobs for not cleaning up messes that they did not make while with the children. I have always cleaned up after we make a mess while they are under my care. Some people hire housekeepers if they want their house cleaned. But these people are not like any I have seen before. Are you guys really more surprised that I don't clean their entire apartment than the fact that it's in the state it is?
I'm surprised that they leave their house like that, then I'm surprised that they won't allow you to help out. I didn't really mean that you had to clean the entire thing but usually when I used to babysit I would tidy up a little. Maybe that's just because I hate messes though?
Yeah, I'm not a neat person to begin with, so I'm not in the habit of tidying up. They don't have anywhere to put things though. They are still living out of their moving boxes. They don't have laundry hampers. They don't have a toilet brush. I mean, there's nothing I can even do to help the situation apart from telling them to get their fucking lives together. But I'm too timid to do that. Today I suggested they get a new lightbulb for their fridge, as it's been burned out for a couple weeks now. It was a step.
What's going on with all of this killer dinnerware?
I woke up at 5.30a with my mind racing. :o I think it's good, though. I needed to clear-up some things that were a little hazy. My fault, not their's.
Hahaha, that's awful! ;D
LMAO! That picture is hilarious. Thank you, savvyidler!
Last night, I saw a commercial for last night's news program. They said, "these people can remember every day if their lives. What can this tell us?" :o :o Umm...I don't know about you...but I'm pretty happy not remembering every day of my life. I'll pass, thank you.
