Reasons to make the O_o Face

There are times when you read, see or hear something that just makes you  :o. This is the thread to share them on!

The other day I don't know where I stumbled on a thread discussing the Nancy Drew novels. I remembered how much I loved them and I did a little research...which led me to the original publishers, who also published the Hardy Boys and the Bobbsey Twins. All written by a cadre of ghost writers under cover names. Then I found a link to an audio book of one of the Bobbsey Twins stories, which I loved when I was a kid. I listened to it for old times' sake. The  :o happened when the author described little Flossie-aged-four's collection of dolls, among which was a black Sambo doll given to her by the family's "coloured cook Dinah, and her husband the stableman, Sam." Who had "excellent rooms above the stables." They had given her this black worsted ragdoll (named Jujube) which she kept with her other dolls..."but apart, at the other end of the shelf, and with a nice  piece of white pasteboard in between--because, well, he wasn't really family."

:o  :o
The story goes on to state that Flossie had thought about giving Jujube away but didn't want to hurt Dinah's feelings; "and after all, as Mamma said, there weren't any doll hospitals for black orphan dolls."

No wonder the Bobbsey Twins books went out of fashion. Nancy Drew is still available today...but then there was nothing like that in them.

So, VWers, what made you :o    today?

what the hell is an mcrib?

I somehow spent $152 at the grocery store yesterday.

did you buy gold-plated potatoes?  ; )

It's a sandwich from McDonalds.  >:( "The McRib consists of a formed ground pork patty, barbecue sauce, onions, and pickles served on a 6 inch (15.2 cm) roll. The patty is precooked, frozen and later reheated." It's like boneless pork type rib things.  :(

I don't even know what I bought; it was just regular stuff!!!  :o

The dog I am keeping until someone can find it a home seems to think that bunny poops are treats.  Every once in a while one will roll out of the cage, and the dog will run to get it and eat it.  He gets more excited about bunny poops than anything else I've fed him.  I totally do not understand this.

My dog would probably eat bunny poo if he had access to it.  He eats cat and bird poo when he can find it.  Especially water bird poo (ducks, pelicans, etc), which smells like rotten fish.  Oh, and baby poo.  At least, he tries to eat baby poo.  We don't let him.  (We do let him eat baby spew though.  Sometimes it's just easier to let him clean it up for us).

Apparently dogs in the wild will eat droppings and they get some nutrients out of it.  And we give him worm tablets, so I don't worry about it too much.  Eating it is preferable to rolling in it because then I don't have anything to clean up...I just don't let him lick me for a while.

Ewww...this just made me gag.  I'd probably throw up if I actually saw it happen.  :-\

DH and I were watching a BBC documentary series on horror movies. I'm kinda a horror lightweight (no, I'm a total lightweight) these days but I am fascinated by cinema history and it was pretty good. They did a bit on the film "Freaks" which I remembered seeing part of on a late TV movie and finding it, like the original Nosferatu...I dunno, kinda sweet in a weird way. It was pilloried in the day, and banned in a lot of areas, basically I think because the director used real "circus freaks" and in those days those people weren't supposed to really exist, in the public mind. They were always put away somewhere so people didn't have to think about them as real people.

The wierd part was, on Saturday my absolute-favourite-student was telling me about this odd little BW film she had caught part of late at night on Halloween, and did I know about it? They showed it on Spanish TV, in English, with subtitles, and had I ever heard...she wasn't too sure what it would be called...her description was confusing but I opened my mouth and said, "Freaks." And told her the story of the film. "Yes, yes! That's it!!" She too found it rather sweet in an odd way.

Coincidence rocks!!!  :o

I vote in support of the dog being on the cleanup team.  That's funny stuff.

I just saw a documentary on Japan. Apparently a lot of people don't use TP there anymore; they have special toilets that wash and dry the pertinent areas for you: first a jet or spray of water, then a current of air.
I want one of those.

I think the dog eats bunny poop, because I won't let him eat the bunny.  He has been in our house for 3 weeks now, and I can tell he has less than vegan thoughts about the bunny.  I obviously don't allow both animals to be out at the same time.  He is a sweet dog and will be a great pet for someone, but it is becoming very clear that someone is someone else.  Again, I took him in temporarily from the beginning so he wouldn't be taken to the pound and put down.  My sister, who is big in the dog rescue world, is trying to find him a home.

ohhhhh ew.  I thought you were saying  'm-crib' not mc rib haha.
yuck.

On eating another animal's waste:
one day at my in-laws' place their ~5 year old dog vomited a little on the floor.  Before anyone could even think about standing up to clean it, the ~1 year old dog dived in, licked it all up and then spent the next five minutes tearing round and round the room as fast as he could go.
Turns out vomit's got a lot of energy in it! ; )

Oww, yes, my cats used to eat each other's spew.  My dog cleans up his own vomit sometimes.  Honestly, I didn't think letting my dog eat baby spew was all that gross compared to the aforementioned rotten fish pelican poo.  But I might be desensitized to baby spew after being covered in it at least twice a day until my baby was ~5 months old.

mmmm.... I had a Monte Cristo sandwich at the Blue Bayou in Disneyland in 1988 (my omni years).  No one else had ordered one and when it came I didn't know what I was supposed to do, which was to dip the batter-fried sandwich in a side of jam.  The sandwich was perplexing, yet tasty.

just seems like a sandwich someone made while they were stoned....and one that i wouldn't terribly miss after going vegan ha. glad to hear that you enjoyed it, and it isn't just somekind of a sick joke.

You've never heard of a monte cristo sandwich? or..just the fact that it's a vegan version?

Agreed.  It's weird ingredients like a pregnancy sandwich.  The person who first thought it up was probably stoned.
