piercing question

So, while I was in a tattoo shop Saturday having a hole punched in my tongue (healing nicely, thank you) I asked the lady doing it how much they charge for the hip bone piercing (I'm rewarding myself for "good behavior" by making new holes in my body) and she said "Ive never heard of that but I would be willing to do it!"

Ummmm...so, is a surface piercing a surface piecing? Or should I find someone who's done it before? Also, treating/aftercare/cleaning a tongue ring has been really easy so far...are surface piercing hard to clean? How quickly do they heal?  I was supprised at how little the tongue piercing hurt...humm...I might be unable to feel pain?

lobes
cartilage
tongue
Hips
wrists
scaffold
tragus
anti-eyebrow (?)

wtf is an anti-eyebrow?

Wrists sounds...eek.  I don't know what scaffold is.  I like tragus a lot.
Basically I'm no use here.

Post tongue pics!

anti-eyebrow is on the outside of your cheek bone near the eye...like where one would draw a tear if they were not putting it on the inside of an eye....

Scaffolding is one that goes from one side of the cartilage to the other side of the cartilage on a  given ear.

My comp is outta commission or I would post tongue pics. :-( (I'm using the computer that belongs to the kids I nanny for.)

have you ever seen a person with a hip piercing?  if you've only read about it maybe it was a typo for 'lip'.. or maybe theyre just saying "wow that is really a hip piercing... so very hip & cool..."?

eta - wouldnt you be afraid of yanking it out while you were getting dressed & undressed??  owww

I reeeeally don't recommend a surface piercing. They don't heal and will reject and that is not a fun thing to go through. I watched my belly button piercings reject and it was sad because I loved them and paid a lot for them, and I was in constant fear that they'd get ripped out, since I was waiting til the skin got really small (I was holding out hope that they'd stay put..sigh), AND when I went to take them out, one of the balls on one of them was stuck, so I ended up having to pull it through the skin, which was incredibly traumatic.

If you really really feel like you want one though, definitely go somewhere where they know what they're doing! Hip or wrist piercings need special jewelry and also there's a certain way they have to do it.

My votes go to tragus and scaffold. I think tragus is pretty cute (:

eta: yeah, there is a hip piercing..if you google image it, you'll find pictures. it looks like it would make wearing clothes unpleasant.

You know the guy who came bowling with us? He had his tragus pierced on both ears. I do not recall his name because I'm bad with names. But yes. I don't think before that I had seen tragus done with hoops, and I think I like hoops better than studs for that.

They look pretty cute, but egh..those and wrist piercings will 100% reject no matter if you take care of them. At least that's what I've read.

Non traditional surface piercings have a tendency to reject and be problematic,
after a period of time most remove them.

I would suggest seeking a reputable piercer that uses quality jewelry.
What is going to make the healing process smooth is proper placement, depth and
properly sized jewelry of good quality. There are different grades of stainless steel.
My body artist tells  nightmares of people coming to him with botched procedures.

I would say that if you really want it done, go to someone who knows what they are doing.  Because even if pierced properly, they could reject purely on if you don't have the right body type (if you're too heavy or too light).  And surface piercings have a huge record of rejecting, even if you take care of them properly.  I have never had any (because my body hates me putting metal through it - my belly button rings started rejecting so they had to come out, and now I have to wear bioplast rings in my tongue because with metal it wouldn't heal properly), but I've done a lot of research into them and you should too.  I recommend bmezine.com.

Also, an RA in my building last year got surface piercings on her chest above her boobs and I had to watch the awful process of them rejecting.  It really is gross.
