Overheard...

I was at the gym today. Two high school girls were sitting on the mats and "working out their abs," which basically meant that they were chatting, texting, and doing half-assed crunches when they felt like it. We will call them Stephanie and Ashley.
Stephanie: "So like, are hot dogs bad for you?"
Ashley: "Ohmygod, I asked my mom that the other day!"
Stephanie: "Are they? I had two for lunch. I never eat them with the bun though."
Ashley: "Yeah, I think they're OK. You know, without the bun."
Stephanie: 'Yeah, OK, good!"
Pretty much speaks for itself. :o
Overheard anything crazy like that lately? I love hearing people's conversations.
OMG imagine the catastrophe if the ducks had fallen in the water!!!1!!1

I know, right? And she was musing to herself, saying "I wonder if they're old enough to swim yet?" Um, yeah, baby ducks start swimming pretty much as soon as they're born. If they're out of the nest, they can swim. I thought that was pretty common knowledge, but maybe not.

I would have had the most hellish urge to push up my glasses and explain to her in an earnest, doorstep-missionary tone of voice, the difference between "nidiculous" birds and "nidifiugous" birds, and that ducks are nidifugous. (And no, I'm not sure I've spelled those correctly). I would also have to fight the impulse to edge ever closer while I was talking...just to freak her out.

Haha, that would have been funny. However, if I tried to say anything at all I would have burst out laughing.
this is making me giggle, it's amazing to me with all the knowledge we have how little of it gets absorbed by people.

So true, Jess! I mentioned to my upstairs neighbour that tomorrow is the Equinox.
"Eccky what?"
"Equinox...you know, the beginning of Autumn."
"So why did you say the other?"
"Because we have an equal number of hours of light and darkness on the equinox."
"The what?"
::)
Yes Yabbit, hehehe.
Priceless overheard:
Two women in a cafe, one says to the other, "You want a Coke?"
Reply: "No I never drink that stuff, I only clean with it."

Other than cleaning dried acid off batteries, what the bleep would you clean with coke?

Lots of things.
If your cooking sticks and burns to the pan, fill the pan past the burn mark with Coke. Bring to a boil slowly, scrubbing gently with a pot brush. Allow to boil for 5 min, turn off the heat and allow to stand for about 15-30 min depending on how bad it is. Then scrub energetically. Repeat if necessary.
Salt-stain (at the seaside) or mineral stains can be cleaned out of toilet bowls by pouring in a can of Coke and letting it stand overnight.
You can loosen rusted bolts or too-tight, dirty wheel lugs by soaking a rag in Coke and wrapping it around the bolt or lug and leaving it for a good bit.
There's more...that's just off the top of my head. People use it a lot in the hotel industry here, to clean stuff.
Google "cleaning with Coke", it's good fun.
OK, a lot of those things I would use vinegar for. I just cringe at the idea of trying to get the sugar off things after the soda does it's job.
My daughter has a vegan hipster in one of her classes and they recently had this conversation when my daughter started eating a soy jerky before class.
Hipster: What is that you're eating?
Daughter: Soy jerky.
Hipster: Oh, are you a vegan?
Daughter: No, I'm a lacto-vegetarian.
Hipster: Well, I'm a vegan.
Daughter: Want to try some, it's good?
Hipster: I can't eat soy. I can only eat tofu.
???
In my dining room, during a bbq yesterday. A guy i just met decided to sit with the three girls (5,6,&7) to eat. I walked past to get more salad...
Guy "so i found out my girlfriend has been going to the jungle gym with another guy, and it made me really mad"
Girls "what if they are just friends?"
Guy "maybe they are just friends... but he was sharing his juice with her, and I share my juice with her all the time, and my sandwiches, and it made me so angry i pushed her off the swing and threw rocks at her"
at this point i ran outside busting up laughing.
on the first day of my current rotation-place-thingy, i overheard some people talking about vegan food (since one of the people's husband went vegan). And they started talking about Native Foods and Real Food Daily and all the good vegan food they've had. :))))))) unexpected
