Open letters

Seeing as we've got confessions and problems and issues springing up in threads all over the shop, I thought it might be interesting to have an open letter thread. Cathartic, perhaps. From your mother ruining your wedding, to your boyfriend who can't stop peeing on the toilet seat, or even that guy on the bus who kept making that annoying noise with his mouth, get it out here.

I'll get the ball rolling.

To my dear darling boyfriend,

Just because you are technically 'clean' when you come out the shower, it doesn't mean that I am okay with using the same towel you've been rubbing all over yourself for a month. I know you have others. I bought you two myself. Drag them out from the murky depths of the laundry basket, wash them and allow me the temporary use of a clean one.

Love, Cat

amy, wtf kind of crazy dudes do you find? I'm glad you're out of that relationship.

i think i am a magnet... he was hot so i guess that was the draw... but.totally.crazy.times.infinity...

this taught me a lesson though in what i want in a relationship, balance for sure, i never realized how "balanced" i had become until someone wanted to be around/ with me 24/7 and it was just too much... he was very very sweet to me but crazy

Ah well, at least it helped you to figure out what you want and don't want. Sucky that he was too clingy, it's cool when you find a really sweet dude but them being overly so and clingy too early on freaks me out.

Josh, how do you feel about Johnny Cash's version? I love his.

I thought Cash’s approach to the..canvas..(for lack of a better word) was wonderful. For his interpretation, I understood where he was coming from and I loved his technique. However, I didn’t care too much for the painting he painted.

In other words: I don't like it as much as the original. Maybe it’s because the original has meant more to me? I also trust/love Trent Reznor’s technique, atmosphere, and end result more than Cash’s.

I hope you were able to follow my art explanation. Ha! NIN is my core, S_o_G.

PS. The Leona Lewis interpretation, though…….she should stick to her water color and finger paint paintings.

Dear Big Cheese,

Thanks ever so much for the almost non-existent holiday bonus.  A whopping $20.00 more than the administrative assistant who "works" 5 hours a day and spends most of that time on ebay.  Really, thanks.  I feel so appreciated.

Under Appreciated

*Correction: before withholding and 401K deductions, it was exactly the same as the administrative assistant's.

Dear V.P. Whose Office is Down The Hall,

Congratulations on your new promotion.  I'm going to miss you around here an awful lot.  You're always fun to talk to and bs with when I'm walking past your office.  Your cheery disposition is going to be appreciated up at the Seattle office.  When you leave, though, PLEASE don't take your Keurig with you.  That is my life line.  They have so many coffee pots up at the corporate office, you won't need this one.  Yeah, sure, it's great for making oatmeal, too, but maybe I can trade you for a measuring cup?  I know it won't be your problem later, but my productivity will take a sharp nose dive if you take that precious coffee pot away from me.

Respectfully,
Laura

Dear VegWeb,

Does anyone have the cooking challenge theme/ ingredient list for each week? Otherwise I'm going to have to repost a new challenge trying my best to remember what I paired =/

Why is it the one time I have to prove I can coordinate something shit hits the fan?

Dear Amy,

Internet search engines often have a cached copy of recently deleted web pages. Assuming you mean the thread "12 WEEK VW COOKING CHALLENGE STARTS 1/9/12", currently google's cache has page 1 (from 2012-01-03 -- missing some posts) and page 2 (from 2012-01-07), while yahoo's cache has page 1 (from 2012-01-08). In particular, your initial post was

We have all decided this cooking challenge will begin Monday 1/9/12 and end 12 weeks later on Sunday 4/1/12.

Each week will consist of 2 ingredients and 2 themes specified below. You can use however many ingredients/ themes specified for the given week.

Try to make a dish a day if possible or hit all 4 specified items that week.

Please try to take pictures if you are able and upload them. If not, it is still ok, a recipe review works fine (But ya'll know we vegans like some food porn).

(I'll move this here since it is getting off-topic for "Reasons to LOL".)

eta: Dear Kuzu, from what I can tell, the archive does not have any "snapshots" from Dec., so I wouldn't be able to find any choice posts/threads from that lost time?

Dear Allychristine,

Though I don't fully understand the reasons, the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine seems to only make content available after it is about six months old. So, while I suspect they actually did crawl vegweb sometime during Dec 16th - Jan 8th, those snapshots probably won't be available for a while. :-\

Dear yabbitgirl, AC, and anyone else interested,

The best way to restore content is to get a copy of the most recent backup made before the posts disappeared. Considering that someone had a backup of Dec 16th, exactly one day before the first of the recent "badware-related activity" reports, I'm guessing backups are done fairly frequently, so there probably is one from very close to Jan 8th. Search engine caches may also be useful, but keep in mind that they are gradually being updated to match the new (or lack of) content, which means any searching is best done promptly. Though, like I said, 5~6 months from now some of the missing content may appear on the Internet Archive.

Regarding recipes in particular, I found a handful in google's cache and put them here.

OK, go back to about page 702 of this thread. See my post with the dancing mushrooms? If you click on that emoticon thing, it will take you to the site where I found it. Only I can't find it again and I've looked all over the shop. If ANYone tracks it down, please tell me what category it's in on that page.
Please.

Dear(?) Post Office Employees,
I have to come see you again today, and believe me, I'm not happy about it.  So hows about if you refrain from talking to me like I'm stupid this time?  Because guess what, I'm not.  Ok, so you know more about the passport application process than I do, but that doesn't make me an idiot.  I swear, if you are rude to me again I will find a much more uncomfortable way for you to process my application.

Sincerely,
PG

Dear Magic Thread,
