You are here

trying again.

hello , I am back after a year of meat eating, this time to stay vegan for good.  Unfortunately during this year I gained 20 pounds and am now up to 180. I know what derailed me but am not willing to mention it...keep your fingers crossed everyone and hope that I will do better this time!

you can do it!

exactly!

and watch some documentaries to keep you motivated or read books on veganism

movies:
earthlings (HARDCORE you will never want to eat animal stuffs again)
eating 3rd edition
forks over knives
the cove (pretty intense)
food inc (the disney movie of food issues)
the world according to monsanto

short nar nar videos:
farm to fridge
meet your meat

books:
skinny bitch
eating animals

good luck... i find that having an ethical tie to eating makes it much harder to "slip"

Welcome back!! ditto what AML said... especially 'eating animals', 'forks over knives', 'food inc,' and 'the world according to monsanto' (although this last one is not veg specific; I just think everyone should watch it!).

Community support is also key, I think... so: glad you're here!  ;)b

I have strong feelings about the abuse of animals that is going on...that is part of the reason that I am vegan.  I feel the way I do because of having worked on a farm as a teenager and seeing firsthand the things that were going on. Animals were suffering from close confinement and dying out of malnutrition when they should have lived.  I just wanted to make this clear that I can read books about this, but I already have very strong convictions. Still, thank you all for the recommendations that you have made and for the welcome to vegweb.

wow first hand is mad props... i don't think i could see all that... i am just stating what worked for an ignorant person like me, who thought animals lived on a farm, in the sun, and just died then we ate them... DUMB I KNOW...

idk what "derailed" you, but if you are looking to lose weight and get healthy this is for you... good luck <3

When I went strict vegan I lost 30lbs in a couple months (this was 3-4 years ago) and I did not feel that well so I decided to stop, I went back to eating meat on a rare occasion but what got me was binge eating. I put back the weight and then some, I went all the way up to 298 (my highest ever) at only 5ft 7in thats pretty big for a woman.  Cut to now, In the last two years I've adopted better eating habbits and I eat what you would call a whole foods diet; and I try not to label myself. I personally eat meat maybe once a month, no dairy as I'm allergic, but I do eat eggs on occasion. Some shrimp but rarely as I tend to stay away from cholesterol.  Now I'm down to 243 which I've been hovering at for 6 months now (no exercise does that). I just bought a home gym so once I get it, I know the pounds will fall right now.

In short, You can do it. If you really want it ,you will succeed. However don't beat yourself up if you have mess ups. I dunno if anyone will agree with me but a diet 99% void of animal products is better than nothing. :)
