Newly Vegan! Any Tips and Tricks to Share? :)

So, after a long time of wanting to become more ethically conscious, i've decided to take the leap and become a vegan. I'm super excited, but also somewhat lost in this sea of information. So, from an honest canadian girl looking for tips and pointers, give me your best shot!

I also love making new friends, especially friends who share interests with me, so don't be afraid to say hi! :)

Hi BriannaRawwrr! Congrats on going vegan!

Yes, so many tips and tricks to share! First, get into the forums and get to know people, they'll help support you in your delicious transition!

As far as recipes, just start searching for the favorite foods you loved as an omnivore, and see if there are good substitutions. It's so much fun creating new recipes that are healthier and tastier!

Have so much fun, being vegan is awesome, so welcome to being extra awesome!!

Hey BR ,welcome to veganism ! No tricks , but tips a plenty . Just off the top of my head , I would say focus on whole foods as much as possible , soak your nuts , seeds , and grains as much as possible , and limit your soy intake to fermented soy products . Feel free to ask questions , I have lots of experience with natural foods , cooking , fermenting , sprouting ...you name it ! Good luck !  Cheer !

My advice to you is: don't stress out about what to eat; even if you're eating the same foods all the time (it's better to eat simple.) Also, eat LOTS of fruit throughout the day. I eat about 10 bananas in the morning, lots of dates and raisins to get LOTS of calories/carbs without the fat. If you're eating 800-1000 calories in the morning, you will not crave other food. Eat potatoes, rice (stir-fry), and salads in the evening. Snack on fruit, of course!

**Try to eat gluten-free as much as possible; ORGANIC (like apples, berries, grapes, and potatoes); and make sure you're eating A LOT (like 2500 calories a day) so you're not tempted to eat anything else. Check out my website where I talk about Veganism, gardening, self-sustainability and how to EAT ON THE CHEAP @ VEGANS LIVING OFF THE LAND.

The best meals:

-STIR-FRY (rice with fried veggies like carrots, onions, zucchini, mushrooms, cauliflower, peppers)
-Chili (with black beans, kidney beans, corn, tomatoes, onions, and herbs)
-Burritoes (with rice, black beans or pinto, salsa, guacomole or avocado, and greens)
-Quasadillas (with mashed chickpeas and salsa)
-Pizza (no cheese with lots of peppers, mushrooms, onions, tomatoes, zucchini, olives)
-FRUIT (bananas and seasonal FRUIT)
-Dessert (Oats with fruit)
-BEAN BURGERS (mashed black beans or lentils with shredded carrot, zucchini, and onions with a little flour)
-Sandwiches (get creative! and make sure the bread is either homemade, gluten-free, or high quality)
-FRIED POTATOES (or mashed potatoes)
