Hello from Texas

Hello,

My name is Ray and I'm a 22 year old vegan living in central Texas. I've lived here all my life, and in august I'll be moving to northern California/ Oregon with my best friend. I'm looking forward to the beautiful redwoods!

I haven't always been vegan. I first became lacto/ovo when I turned 17. When I turned 19 I became vegan, but that only lasted a year due to starvation, and a poorly planned diet.  I am now happily on a vegan diet as of December 1st, 2009. What makes this switch different from the last is that I've decided to remove all pre-prepared foods from my diet. Now, I'm cooking all my meals from scratch with fresh produce and whole foods. The toughest part has been planning meals for the whole day. (I tend to just eat whatever is around, and only put effort into cooking a great dinner.) So I'm in the process of putting together some kind of structure/ menu.

Thank you everyone for putting this massive resource together. I look forward to contributing.

Nice to meet you.  Best wishes in all that you do.

Hey! So do you, like, have cowboy boots and ride horses?

haha. greatness.

I never really craved meat.. or even liked it, but 17 was also the age I really "went" vegetarian. I think I mostly became high from being a part of something at first. I never had much school spirit (or any pride in many things - other than myself) but this is something that really gets my engine going. And I also have SLOWLY transitioned into veganism over the past couple months. Anyways.. you are not alone! Have fun with it!

Nope, I don't wear cowboy boots and ride horses. In fact, I dont know anyone who owns such footwear, and I've never seen a horse in real life. Sorry to spoil the fantasy!  ;)

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.

Hi Ray! Crazy similarities.....I, too, was a vegetarian for a while before going vegan. I ALSO tried to go vegan before and did not properly plan my diet, resulting in failure. And I am now having much more success as a vegan due to spending most of my time in the kitchen, cooking away and preparing fresh meals from mostly whole foods.

Nice to meet you!
