You are here

Hello from Johns Hopkins University!

Hi fellow VegWebbers! My name is Eileen, and I'm senior at Johns Hopkins University. Before you ask, no, not studying to be a doctor haha ... anyway, veganism is something I've wanted to do since high school, but I finally sat down recently, threw out/gave away all the stuff in my cabinets and fridge that contained any sort of animal product, and here I am! Tomorrow is officially my last night of vegetarianism, and what better day to celebrate Guy Fawkes day than with a banana apple tofu smoothie.  :w00t!:

Welcome!

I'll celebrate with you by avoiding animal products ALL DAY!  ;)

Once you've been vegetarian becoming vegan is not too hard. . . if you can do without cheese omelets.

Hey there! I'm at MICA, and I'll be taking a class there next semester (something from the women's studies department....)
Nice to know there's more of us around!

P.S. Have you been to yabba pot? It's best to go for lunch, because their specials are cheapish, and it's all vegan. (As a senior at JHU I'm sure you're aware by now...)

@IdrilAsphodel - Hi fellow Baltimorean! I think there are actually a lot of vegetarians/vegans here on campus. But yea, I've never heard of Yabba Pot, where is that? The only vegetarian/vegan cafe I know of is One World Cafe, my roommate actually works there. Their stuff is so yummy hehe

Lots of vegs at JHU? I would have never guessed! MICA is swarming with people like us-- for example, every week last month there was a vegan bake sale. I ate so much!
Yabba Pot is an all-vegan soul food restaurant. It's seriously really, really good.
I'd suggest the fried 'chicken' or the 'ribs'. But the menu rotates daily, so I have no idea what you would get. (I know they make a lasagna that is supposedly to die for!)

The restaurant is kind of between Hopkins and MICA--about halfway in the middle. Seriously, go to lunch there sometime, and try lots of entrees. They're delicious.

Welcome Eileen!
Vegan soul food?  Dang, sounds fantastic, you're killin' me here!

Seriously, come to Bmore for the vegan soul food.
Because that's basically the only 100% vegan restaurant we have in this city!  :-D
Anyways, your friend works at One World Cafe? I've never been--been meaning to go, though. Sounds fabulous!
I also know there's a vegetarian restaurant somewhere around town called "Liquid Earth". I've looked at their menu, and it looks pretty fabulous.
All in all, in Bmore we vegans need to band together, because it's just not that vegan friendly here. (Granted, it's most veg-friendly than my hometown, outside Chicago...)
But yeah, nice to meet you! :)
