Hello, I'm new here

Hello all, I have been a vegetarian for years but now trying to eliminate eggs & dairy.  It's not easy but I am trying!  I plan on trying a new recipe from here everyday if I am able.

I'm 38 years old, been married almost 15 years and I am a doggy mom to 5 adopted dogs.  We currently live just North of Seattle, WA.  My husband is also vegetarian and trying to cut out eggs and dairy.  I would appreciate any tips or suggestions you guys have to make the transition a little easier.  Thanks! :)

welcome, there are so many threads that will be good for you to read here.  Just dive in!

Welcome.  There are tons of great recipes out there.  I went from omni to vegan in about 3 months about 10 years ago.  Eggs weren't to hard to give up, but I never really ate them plain, just in things.  As far as dairy goes, my advice would be to avoid both dairy as substitutes (unless as ingredients) for a while.  After you give your taste buds time to adjust to the new tastes, mild substitutes will taste better.  Give time you will probably find yourself disliking dairy flavors/smells.  I haven't tried Diaya yet so I can't comment about it, but other than that there are no good vegan cheeses.  You're best off to just due without in my opinion.  I occasionally eat substitutes, but other than almond/soy milk in recipes, I eat mostly whole foods and love it all.  You will find we are a very friendly  and diverse bunch who wants to help in any way we can.

Welcome!  Your avatar is adorable!
If you are missing eggs, a little black salt (kala nama) will give tofu a distinctly eggy taste.  It's perfect for tofu scrambles, 'egg' salad sandwiches, omelets and quiche.  I also use it when making a mayonnaise replacement.

Welcome!

I think the idea of trying a new vegan meal every day is a great idea!

I think that eliminating dairy and eggs is a great decision. From my experience replacing dairy milk with almond, rice, oat, soy, and coconut milk is great. Also there is a great ice cream that is based from coconut milk from Turtle Mountain. Olive and sesame seed oil are great replacements for butter. Bananas or silken tofu can also replace eggs in most recipes.  I would do without the cheese substitutes, from what I hear they suck.

Welcome!

I second (or third, as it were? Or maybe even fourth!) the idea of making a new vegan meal every day. You'll learn really quickly how easy it is to live without eggs and dairy! Also, finding your new favorite recipes will be easy that way... Happy Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookies is my hands-down favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe and so it's easy to replace all the others with it!

It sounds like you're gonna have lots of fun on here... and please let me know if you ever have any questions or concerns or just want to chat :)

Just a little update, things have been going really great!  It's been much easier than I thought it would be to cut out eggs and dairy :)  We are even having a vegan Christmas dinner!

Sorry for the late reply..we currently have 3 Chihauhua's, 1 shih tzu mix, and a poodle mix of some kind!  :)
