Hello, all!

Hello,

I have been trying to follow a strict vegan diet for over ten years now, and it seems that I always get into a rut and fail miserably.  I know that this is the best diet for me physically and spiritually, and I was wondering if I could get any pointers from anyone as to how not to cave in to cravings.  I realize that it's easier to follow a diet when you have food prepared, but I still have times when I can justify fast food to myself.  I realize it's my struggle, but I would love to hear your thoughts!

Hi Sarah.

I had trouble with my vegan diet for a little while. I think that it's best just to work at it, and through that practice, you can build discipline. It is imperative that you know that it depends on your willpower. Each time you feel like you are going to cave, tell yourself that you can continue. As I mentioned before, it takes practice, but I have faith in you. I hope this helps at least a little bit.

Your Valentine.

Thanks for the encouragement!  I've been trying for the past few months to eliminate all animal products, and I've been successful for two weeks now, so I'm hoping I've figured it out a bit.  I've noticed that keeping myself surrounded with support, even in the form of vegan blog posts on my facebook account.  I'm happy that there is a big community on this site full of awesome people.  It helps a ton!

If you have been on it 12 years then forgive yourself your cravings and even your lapses. One can't help but want to sample new things. Just go back to your discipline as soon as you satisfy the urge to cheat. It is only food, tons of it go through our body, you are not committing adultry or stealing. A time will come when the food temptation and all temptations lose their apeal.
