Im currently learning German in Zurich/Oerlikon and if anyone can speak Deustch im here to practice as well!

I cant wait to try out all these amazing recipes and chow down!

Nice to meet y'all! Bis Spater!

Hi Saucy,

Just like you, I also am (lacto-)vegetarian but tending to being mostly vegan. There are many great foods I wouldn't have tried if it wasn't for looking more into vegan cooking.

Did your whole family move to Switzerland or just you? Oh, also: I'm from Germany :).

Bis später!

Its only I that moved to Switzerland, i moved to be with my boyfriend who is Swiss.  Wohnst du jetzt in Deutschland? Was ist lacto- vegetarian? Keine Milch? I think its more difficult for me to be a vegetarian going on vegan in Switzerland. In America i was filled with options and its cheaper but being here in Schweiz is a challenge. Why do you choose your diet? To me it seems that most vegans do it for animal rights, but i only do it for health benifets.

I absolutely love Schwarzwalderkirchetorte and other Swiss/German foods and want to incorporate vegetarian/vegan versions!

Ja, ich lebe in Deutschland (sorry I wasn't clear about that in my post!). Hm, it sure must be harder to eat vegan in Switzerland if you've been used to all of the awesome vegan choices in the US. What do you miss most? I've had Daiya cheese from a vegan store in Berlin several times and it's soooo good!

Maybe you've found this website already but I thought it might be helpful: http://www.vegan.ch/

Have you generally settled in Switzerland so far or are you feeling homesick? It must be hard to live that far away from your family though moving there to live with your boyfriend naturally is understandable.

Lacto-vegetarian means pretty much vegan plus having dairy products. I do make sure not to consume animal rennet or gelatin (sometimes mixed into Quark/Joghurt). While I do have dairy it's not a big part of my diet. My main meals are vegan so dairy only makes an appearance in snacks.

Aaaah, Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte - it's been too long since I last had it!  I didn't try this recipe yet but he's a popular vegan chef so maybe it's good? http://www.attilahildmann.com/kirschtorte_schwarzwald_rezept/sahne_torten_rezepte.htm

My mum once baked another of his cakes for me, though, and that one was nice.

My reasons for eating mostly vegan and hopefully cutting out the remaining dairy eventually are manifold. You already mentioned the ethical reasons and health benefits. I also think it's more sustainable for the environment. I think it doesn't matter which reasons you're deciding on your diet for - as long as you feel good about it, it's right :).

Seit wann bist du Vegetarierin? Ernährt sich dein Freund ebenfalls vegetarisch?

(As for the triple-posting: That could have been me, too :D!)

and for now i have a crap phone, i had to get a new one when i moved here. I also miss my friends back in the US even though i look back they were not real friends. But there was one friend that was also vegetarian but overall health nut, and we woud help each other out  giving advice talking about such things. Anways, all in good time i will have a new phone, so far i dont need a car, and i am making friends slowly. I really dont care about the number of friends i have. In the US its all about the number, how many you have. I care about what people are worth, Europe shares that value too.

Im guessing you live in Berlin? Ich will nach Berlin zu gehen. Ich habe eine vegetarin fur 2 Jahre. Und dir? Mien Freund ist nicht ein vegetarisch. He does not mind and he teases me alot about being one. he says he will hide meat in my food! hahaha! He loves meat, but not a nig fan of cheese. Cheese is everywhere around here, and milk.

Your right about the reasons. As long as we are happy :)

Heeyyy! danke for the CH vegan site!

arrghhh! this board is mean! i cant put long posts! I feel blonde for keep messing up!haha.Ok what i said before it was cut off was:

Gruezi!   Ich mag dein Name, "small cheese maker" haha. We should have fondue! I miss the country food of the US fried green tomatoes, potato salad, candied carrots, baked beans, tex mex food, the works! I also miss my car. I had a sleek  black BMW and her name was Betty haha. I also had a nice andriod phone......i will also add: i was not super close with my family. Sad yes. So it was not hard to move. Even without my boyfriend, ive always wanted to live in Europe. Und dir? Magst Du Deutschland? Would you move? And have you ever been to Schweiz?

Aw, don't feel stupid for messing posts up. It's not your fault but the board's - technology can be tricky!

Haha, my name actually doesn't mean cheesemaker though I that'd be cute, too! "kleineKaiserin" was the nickname given to me by a teacher back in school in regards of my family's name. Translated it'd mean "little empress" though that's not what I had in mind :).

I'd miss my friends, too, if I moved. Actually I've been missing the friends from back home since I moved to another city for my studies. I'm with you on rather having a smaller number of close friends than many you don't have a lot to do with/can't trust. It's like Facebook: I don't blindly accept every friend request because I don't care about having a large number of "friends" on there. I prefer to stay in contact mostly with those I truly know and have things to share with.

Sadly I don't live in Berlin but I'd love to move there one day.  I do visit the city several times a year, though, and actually meant to go again sometime soon. It's a great place to be. I'm living in a city in Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen).

As for the cheese fondue: Is it embarrassing that I never had it so far? I bet I'm missing out but at least I had chocolate fondue several times before - yum!

Funny how you've always wanted to move to Europe. Would you have picked Switzerland, too, if it wasn't for your boyfriend living there? I wish you lived in Germany so we could meet :). I haven't been to Switzerland yet but would like to go there.

Your boyfriend doesn't like cheese?! He can't truly be Swiss :D.

Missing foods is another thing I can fully understand. Along with family (sorry you're not close to yours!) and friends is one thing making you feel home in a place, right? Hence  the name "comfort food". I never had fried green tomatoes or candied carrots - I guess I should try them, huh?

Regarding the exchange with your vegetarian friend: I don't have any vegetarian/vegan friends around here, either, so maybe we could give each other advice etc.?

So cute you named your car and too bad Betty couldn't come to Switzerland with you! And I just recently got myself an Android phone after years of having a not properly working phone.
