You are here

Greetings from the Canadian Rockies.

My name is Lydia. I am 28, married, with a soon to be 2 year old daughter. I became vegetarian back in August to help my Crohn's disease. The diet alone made me about 80% better. I messed up my diet during the holidays and ended up with a flare that I cant seem to shake. So I am back on the vegetarian wagon. I dont eat eggs, dairy, or meat, but I dont call myself vegan because I eat honey and I dont carefully examine every product I buy to see if its vegan approved. I have an easy time being veg at home but when I go somewhere for lunch I have a hard time asking "Is there ____ in that?" I just have a hard time doing it.

My husband has been great through all of this. I dont have to buy anything special for him. He loves all the food I make and has dropped about 20 lbs since the switch. My DD is not a picky eater. She gobbles down everything and I am not worries about her nutrition at all.

Anyway, I love this site and the recipes and I though I would introduce myself. I really do believe that eating this way is the healthiest choice for me and my family. My mom was very skeptical at first but I think she has made her peace with it.

Nice to meet you.  I'm sure you'll find this site helpful and hope you post often!

Hi MountainMamma :)

It took me about 7 years to totally go Vegan. I started off eliminating this or that, would "backslide" give up for awhile and then try again. Some of my goes were to raw food others vegetarian. Then this last time some form of common sense took over. I knew I was going Vegan and set about deliberately eliminating with the destination of animal free in mind.  Some foods I combined in order to prepare our pallets for the new texture or taste.  Now we are 100 percent animal free (to the best of my knowledge.)

I have found this incredible peace within myself, a knowing that this is right.  When I go out I ask what is in the food I am eating. I have only had one fairly negative reaction, that is not so bad :)

Best wishes,

Song

Hi MountainMama,

I agree with what Song said above about asking - besides so many people have food allergies these days that restaurants are used to being asked about their ingredients.

Cheers from BC!
