I switched to vegetarian three weeks ago and have now transitioned to what I call "daytime vegan". I eat my breakfast, lunch and snacks vegan but dinner is still vegetarian. My challenge is cheese and some dairy at diiner time. My husband is a stone cold carnivore so I feel compelled to share one meal with him each day, that meal being dinner. I can make almost anything he eats into a vegetarian meal (bean and cheese burritos, cheese enchiladas, beef stroganoff minus the beef and with peas). Does anyone know of a good vegan cheese substitutes? I am ready to try the next step and let go of the cheese but I still want to share meals with the hubby. any help would be appreciated! Also does anyone know of a good protein powder that doesn't have a chalky texture to it? Much thanks and much love to this website!
hi Loveylily, I do not understand your post. You said you switched to vegetarian three weeks ago. Is that right? I see you have been registered since 2009--did you mean three years ago?
I have been vegan for 4 years now and my live-in boyfriend, although he likes vegan cooking, still likes to eat non-vegan foods. We usually eat dinner together and have never had any problems. If he wants meat he will bake a chicken or make whatever mean he wants, and then we will share the rest of the food, such as a casserole, veggies, soup or other main course. So you can eat the same meal, but your meat portion will be fake meat, and his portion will be real. For fake cheese I am really enjoying "Daiya." Otherwise there is a great cookbook called the "Un-Cheese Cookbook" by Joanne Stepaniak, which shows you how to make your favorite "Cheesy" foods from other ingredients.
Hi I too am looking for a good cheese sub....and Really JKL ?? 3 weeks or years I dont think that was her question here. LOL..Anyway, Im going to look up the Daiya like ^ recomended.
Hi. I asked about the three months vs three years because, frankly, the diet she has been eating does not sound very healthy. It sounds very dairy intensive and it seems she is still in the phase of cooking omni meals but substituting meat for cheese or other nondairy alternatives, which is something people commonly do when they first switch to OL. I think she would do much better to cook a nutritionally balanced vegan meal and have her hubby just eat his chicken or steak on the side.
So actually, Stacylong72, I was asking because I was wondering what her experience and mindset was, not just because I wanted to waste her time.
Daiya...without a doubt!!
I like galaxy food american "cheese", it melts well, u can find it at walmart next to the veggies, my cheese addict kid cant tell the difference between it and kraft (non vegan). I am sooo addicted to unsweetened almond milk, which u can get at the same store. They have fake ground meat also, u can add in chilli. Personally though, I like the ground seasoned chickpea tacos more then the fake meat ones, but use the fake meat always in chilli.
