You are here

I made that!! The official sharing/bragging thread.

We all seem to talk about and (sometimes) post pictures of our creations. Well here I am to call you all out!!  8-)

I want to see what you've cooked, sewn, painted, drawn, written (well, maybe a link to this one, if it is long), what-have-you! Even if you think it is horrible, we (or rather, I) WANT to see it!!

I'll start it off with my first adventure into the art of gluten free baking.

http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs153.snc1/5688_136809863697_563808697_3293594_6807462_n.jpg

Its not the greatest, by any means, I heavily modified an old betty crocker recipe to the point where I think no one would recognize it.... 3 layer Banana Coconut gluten free vegan pirate ship cake with gluten free vegan banana cream and chocolate banana cream frostings. I still have to work on making the densities more 'uniform'/no breakage or cracking....

That's so awesome hanashi!  Are those pretzels around the edges?

I would post a picture of the lap quilt I've been working on, but I'm too embarrassed.  I don't actually know how to quilt so I'm kind of making it up as I go.

don't be embarrassed Storm. I.Want.To.See.It!!

I was nearly in tears when the bow started sinking/breaking away from the rest of the ship/cake. If I had the chance/time to redo it, I would have thrown it out. I'm still not happy with the end result, but everyone else was impressed.

Yes, those are pretzels on the 'planks' of the ship...gluten free. It was definitely a learning experience. When I'm done with finishing off the edges of my purse (which was done free hand, my first attempt.) I'm going to post it.

I also want to see this dresser Sarah!!

So come on people, ante up!!

Heh, i'll get a picture of the dresser!! i was just thinking of that actually. The batteries in our camera are dead and the phone pictures i took make it look poopy, but when i find batteries (which i think i have) i shall take about 100000 pictures of things to fill up this thread. haha.

I've been learning to crochet over the past three or four weeks. Here's my first finished project:

i suggested that to her and she was like NO WAY and i was like, why would you move it just to mail it. i guess she hates post offices. anyways, it is nice to see the finished product!

Okay, but I'm not posting a close up.  It looks okay from a distance.....basic, but okay.  Close up you can see that the stitches aren't exactly even or of the same length but in my defense, I'm doing it by hand.  My great grandmother has quilts in the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City and she's probably rolling over in her grave at mine.  Hers are all hand quilted of course, but they are so perfect they almost look like they were done on a machine.  I didn't have any of that stuff you put between the top and bottom so I used a cut up old blanket in the middle and I have no idea how I'm supposed to finish the edges.  I cut the bottom sheet larger than the blocked piece so I could fold it over the edges in case I couldn't figure out anything else to do.  I know there are real quilters here on VW and I ask that you laugh quietly.

That's my daughter hiding behind it.

awe storm, that is cute! my quilts are always a little funky and off. i look at quilting as a fun hobby, not something i need to perfect. i usually cut the back bigger and just fold them over to bind them. i've done "real" binding before and it is a pain in my ass.

oh storm! don't be! cause if you look close it is kinda uneven/messed up.

for this quilt, i sewed 4 strips together alternating PGPG. one set was lightpink/dark green and the other was darkpink/lightgreen. then i cut them with a rotery cutter into halfsquare triangles. then i made squares by joining the long sides together. then i sewed them together.

if anyone wants to start with quilting, i suggest the books that are rotary cut quilts that use a lot of strip piecing. they are pretty quick and easy and you don't have to cut out 100000 little squares. i've made some double irish chains and other patterns like that. i plan to start another quilt this weekend that is three strips together, cut into squares, and then set horizontal-vertical--h-v. it should be pretty cool

Oooooo i should find a picture of the first thing i've ever sewed. Its a blanket/quilt type thing. My mom did lots on it cause i was like, 13, butttttt, i helped :) haha. Errrr, i must find batteries. Or you guys can just deal with bad cell phone pictures if i dont get some soon.
