You are here

I made that!! The official sharing/bragging thread.

We all seem to talk about and (sometimes) post pictures of our creations. Well here I am to call you all out!!  8-)

I want to see what you've cooked, sewn, painted, drawn, written (well, maybe a link to this one, if it is long), what-have-you! Even if you think it is horrible, we (or rather, I) WANT to see it!!

I'll start it off with my first adventure into the art of gluten free baking.

Its not the greatest, by any means, I heavily modified an old betty crocker recipe to the point where I think no one would recognize it.... 3 layer Banana Coconut gluten free vegan pirate ship cake with gluten free vegan banana cream and chocolate banana cream frostings. I still have to work on making the densities more 'uniform'/no breakage or cracking....

the only curtians i have are black and in my bedroom to block out the light

Do you have blinds instead?  I just have empty windows.  The way my house is situated to my neighbors, my privacy isn't an issue, but I'd like to have insulating, room-darkening curtains.  I have 6-foot wide / 3-foot high windows, so I'm not sure if I made curtains I should go with two panels or one.  I wouldn't be able to do anything cool with them, like tie them in the middle like base did, if I went with one.

I like the curtain fabric and color.  I don't have curtains because I can't find any I like.  Maybe I should follow your lead and head to the fabric store if my fabric store has anything nearly that cool.  Nice job, sb!

Did you do one panel per window and tie it in the middle, or is that one of multiple panels?

I did one one panel in that window. Tying it in the middle was just an afterthought, and I think it could have used a second panel, or maybe an extra foot or to in width. This is all just a learning experience for me!

i have blinds and curtians... the blinds don't keep out the light enough and the first instance of sunlight will wake me up... i got the black rod and curtians from Target, they adjust to all kinds of lengths... the curtian isn't even that heavy or thick but def not shear and it's only 1 layer of curtians... i even tack the side closest to me to the wall so the light can't sneak in LOL... if you wanted it to be purdy you could always have a second layer on top of the black and tie those or whatever

i think you were talking to me...

Yep.

YOU AND I ARE THE SAME KIND OF SLEEPERS

Since my miniature house has 70's paneling and was probably built from a kit, there's not a lot of saving it, aesthetically.  For room darkening purposes, I'm thinking of putting tension rods in the window frame and using something thick, like fleece, or making a "duvet cover" for the fleece so it's no more ugly than it has to be.  I have (uninstalled) curtain rods for my windows.  The curtain rod layer would either be the (uninstalled) split bamboo shades I already have or curtains.  If curtains, I'm thinking I'd want to finally get a tjanting tool and batik a design onto cotton and make curtains from that.  Being undecided is why it hasn't happened yet, but I'm inspired to be inspired.

honestly don't get curtains too thick... i used to nail a blanket over the window and it made the room hot in my old place and melted the cheapy shutters... i don't care how plain mine look cause they have a purpose TO KEEP THE LIGHT OUT! I will post a pic... Have you checked out Target?

It depends, though. e.g., my place gets WAY COLD in the winter, so ugly fleece curtains would probably be the way to go

if i weren't moving out

and not cheap

when i was looking at apts on friday, there was one pretty good one, but it had the disadvantage of having no window fixins. i'd have to do my own curtains. TOO LAZY

here are my curtians... i would wake up at the crack of dawn without them... i am a minimalist though if you can't tell... most of my belongings and stuff are in the kitchen haha

WHICH DO I GO WITH?

Without valance

With valance.

Sorry about the quality, my phone is not the best camera.

If those are the absolute two choices, without valence.  The valence may look okay shorter, though.

I kind of agree with HH. I vote for the second one but with a shorter valance.

Sidenote: Everyone has some nice crafts.

SB, apply the "rule of thirds".  Make the valance just short of 1/3 the length of the curtain and you will like the results a lot better.

Actually, I did these for "From Z with Love" which was recently started recently by a friend of mine who is working on getting tax exempt status for it.  She lost her baby Zayana, aka "Z" to a genetic disorder that causes brittle bones.  Z was a severe case but those with mild cases can do just about anything as long as they take reasonable precautions not to "get broken".  The quilts will go out with altered clothing (so babies don't break while getting dressed),other gifts and info on the condition and support groups.

I also sew with a group of ladies using donated materials for a local single mom's support group.

I'm so sorry for your friend but how wonderful that she has turned her loss into something to help others.  I have a friend with a brittle bone disorder who spent her early years in a wheelchair, until she found a doctor who took some chances and she's been walking with a walker for the last 25 years.

My daughter and I collaborated on her 80s retro funky shirt.

Storm - This thread is called "I made that!!!" Therefore, your picture is fun for two reasons. 1) Because you made that shirt. 2) Because you made your daughter. Ha! Don't mind me..just some observational humor I usually keep inside my head. :)
