i learned something today...

i learned that i HATE gardening... especially when its almost 100 degrees outside  :waa:

my back is RED right now and it hurts so bad... i wanted to upload pics of my garden at the new house but for some reason my laptop isn't seeing my SD card.

i put a bunch of these in the garden. they're tiny but it SAYS they should get bigger. they're called celosia and they're really pretty.

i also put some roses, a lily, and a flowering maple, that's a plant (not a tree unfortunately) that has flowers that look like little hanging chinese lanterns

Pretty!  I've never seen either of those before.

They are so beautiful Sariea! I'm sure your home looks so great! And you may hate gardening now--but in a few days when everything starts taking to their new home and they become amazingly gorgous--you'll look back on today and be so proud of your work!!!  :)>>>

Hang in there with the gardening.  This is my first spring/summer in my house and the people who lived here before did not take care of the gardens at all.  There is an enclosed bed in the back yard that would make a great vegetable garden...except that the whole thing is a mass of weeds.  I am working at uprooting them all, but it is a long, slow process...and very hot here as well!  I just keep telling myself that tomatoes in my backyard will make it all worth it...
Beautiful plants, love the chinese lantern one.

same here. they were here for 16+ years and the gardens were in bad shape. rocks all inside the garden. and they covered the whole garden with wood chips. my mom told me the wood chips would help keep the garden wet for longer but it was such a pain. Dean used the entire back garden (the length of the house) for veggies. he's still not done. he wants to put some melon in.

not if my back still hurts as much as it does right now ;)

Oh Sairea, I wish I could come help you! I miss having a garden; I love how accesible everything is in town but I miss gardening. My forte was vegetables not flowers, but I know how therapeutic it can be to get your hands deep in the earth and make beauty out of chaos. And the smell of freshly turned, damp earth. Ahhh.

I would come and do the donkey work for you while you sat in the shade and supervised, sipping lemonade and criticising.  :)>>>

That looks great.  I'll be there with yg and we can do the donkey-free labor (better ac?).  The only gardening I get in is watering the vinca.

I can't wait the years until we can have a garden...

I love the lanterns...so beautiful!  The celosia will get bigger and spread out a little.  My mom used to always plant those.

I did my front flowers, but I have to deal with the back now....arg. Its a mess.  I am very happy because last year I "rescued" some clearance perennials and all of them came back this year really nice and healthy!  All they really needed was some good earth and water...I hate to see the racks of dying plants at the gardening center. :'(

I started up my garden again! I tried growing vegetables last summer, and some of it went well... Yesterday I began pulling at weeds and cleaning things out, to get ready for some plantin'! I better get on that soon, though, don't want to wait too late into the season...

Yay for gardening! I don't really know what I'm doing though...

That flowering maple is glorious!  Lovely choices.

One other thing you learned is just that you haven't used those back muscles in that way either before or for a long time.  It's a normal thing.  They'll heal and then be stronger.  Don't give up on working in your beautiful garden!

I've got vegetables and some flowers in my front yard.  We kinda got a late start and we just picked our first ripe tomato this week.  Lots more riping on the vine still.  It's heaven to be able to go out your door and pick something for dinner!

Flowers are nice too.  Pretty has its own value.

ahh where were you guys yesterday to do this for me? lol Dean's mom ended up digging the deep holes for the perennials cuz i got frustrated.

i got a bad sunburn though

today  we didn't do much outside. he went to sam's and got a rack for extra food (like we have any). and a table w/ wheels for the kitchen as an island kinda thing. then i went and got an elliptical  :o and watched him put it together

I also hate gardening!  Give me a vacuum, a toilet scrub brush, a can of paint - just not gardening tools!  :D

Wow, you and I would get along great!  I hate cleaning, but I love gardening.  Flowers I have never been too keen on, but veggies I have always loved to grow.  My dream is to one day have a house with a nice big back yard so I can have a big organic garden and grow my own produce so that I won't have to buy so much at the store.  I even want to try to grow my own soybeans, and grapes so that I can make wine.  Ideally, I would grow all the food I need, so that I wouldn't have to grocery shop at all.  But that will probably never happen.

Yay Sariea for plants!  So nice of Dean's Mom to come help too.  Hope your sunburn goes away quickly too.

I dont plan on doing any gardening this year really.  We need to do some trimming all around the house but planting veggies or herbs is not on my list.  Next year though, I want lots of good food growing in my yard!
