HE'S A TUUURRRRRRRIST!

My (and most of Europe's) question is, what did he actually do to merit a Nobel prize? OK, we all know they are political in nature, but---yeah, so he got elected. But aside from that. What has he done yet to benefit humanity?

Here we go again. He won the Nobel Peace Prize which has a history of awarding the prize to people who represent a movement toward peace as opposed to death, destruction, invasion, etc. Asking what he has done for humanity is like asking what colored socks he wears and how pertinent is that!

For example, Desmond Tutu won the prize for advocating peace in South Africa and an end to apartheid. Many years later that has not been acheived but does not tarnish his efforts to do so. Also, can anyone out there name me one person who has been awarded the Peace Prize who has actually brought about world peace? Of course not, because it hasn't been done. It cannot be acheived, but it can be striven for.

As for the "birthright" crap, it's another example of right wingnuts doing ANYTHING to diminish and demean President Obama because of their inability to accept that there is, in the White House, someone who is diametrically the opposite of everything they wish. That, and they're basically racists.  The right wing wacko lady who forged the Kenya birth certificate (check it out) tried to take it to court and when she lost and was told by the judge not to bring this frivolous lawsuit into his court again, she threatened to sue the judge for being biased toward the President!

The GOP has already announced that their job is now to bring down this presidency. Not to fight for conservative causes or promote any social or political agenda, but to bring down this administration any way they can.

Yabbit, a lot of people in the US have the same question, really.

I feel that he hasn't yet been in office long enough to be criticized OR applauded for anything. Ask me next year.

stevie's racist comment was about the birthers, not the peace prize.  I feel the same way.  There are a lot of legitimate things to debate about Obama, but the prolonged birther angle (well after it's been cleared up) smacks of racism.  A quick visit to Fact Check would have cleared that up for you, sq.  Also check out Salon's handy-dandy guide to refuting the Birthers.  (eta:  I'm not saying that about you, sq, since it sounds like this is the first time you've been exposed to the birther angle.  It has been all over the news for well over a year.  I'm talking about the people who won't let it go and continue to forward emails.)

The Nobel prize committee acknowledged Obama's "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples."  There are splitters and joiners.  Bush was a splitter and Obama is a joiner.  I figure the accolade is more a reflection of how the international community felt about Bush than how it feels about Obama.

The general concensus, even among Obama fans like myself is that he didn't deserve the prize so early in his tenure as president, next year even or at the end of four years, but not this soon. 

I love Obama, but the voting was done the second week he was in office.  Very little of what you mentioned steviedg had been done yet.

I just have to ask everyone who says its too soon, when is the right time? What would he had to have done later that would make it seem like a better reason and time? I know he's been in for less than a year, something a lot of people tend to forget, but no one can deny the feeling of happiness the days after he won the election. The world was happy that he was elected not just people here. That alone, I think is what makes it worth it.

I think people should just read the statement the committee released when it was announced that Obama recieved the peace prize. They're the one's who decides this, not the world population, so I would assume they had what they thought was a good reason.

I don't like Obama.  I'm sorry but, I just don't. I also can't support someone who supports abortion.  I feel as if this country has taken a socialist turn.  I also feel sorry for all the people in the immigration process who were hoping Mr. Obama would keep his word on doing something about immigration reform yet, he has said that nothing can be done during his time in office due to more pressing matters.  Yes, I can understand that the economy and health care come first but, immigrants put back a lot into the economy so why wouldn't immigration be important too?  Seriously though the government is considering not giving tax returns to immigrants now.  What ??? Excuse me but, I know of tons of people who get taxes taken out and never file because they are scared to get sent back to there country.  Where may I ask is all that unclaimed tax money?  And what is the purpose of issuing a TIN number if there not going to be able to claim taxes now anyways?  This whole situation sucks and I seriously wish that America wasn't how it is now.  Racism is rampant and Mexicans are getting the worst of it.  Obama supports that racist sheriff in Arizona.  Sorry to those who think I'm pulling the race card but, when you get asked if you are a citizen and the three americans in front of you didn't then you start to feel bad.  When you get stopped and the first thing the cop asks you is if you are born in the us in stupid american spanish then you start to feel offended.  When you get told to go back to mexico when you're not even born in mexico you start to get angry.  I'm sorry but, I can't understand when this whole close the border business happened but, it hurts to all of a sudden be not wanted in the country of your own birth because everyone wants people of your ethnicity out. And I hate the fact that the President of the United States of America can't see it for what it is.  So no I do not support Democrats or this administration.
