Marijuana

What do you all think about it? I mean in general, your stance on drugs, if you smoke/ reasons you don't, etc. I really don't know what made me think of it, I just would like to know other peoples opinons of it. I was thinking of making it a pole, but I don't know how that would have worked out.

while I'm not a regular pot smoker by any means, it does have a nice calming affect/effect? (never can remember which one is correct!), so I don't think everyone that smokes it is the typical burnt out lazy person eating potato chips on the couch.  I have alot of nervous energy, and would rather calm down this way than with pills such as xanax or valium.  Prescription pills is a whole other topic, but imo a far worse problem in our country.

Yes, the calming is a good thing about it. And the pain management....I really want to touch on this because I wake up in agony and sometimes I cannot hold my head up because of the pain. I cannot go to a doctor, because I don't have money even for gas, so I do what works.

Are you paying for the drugs?

I have to make the half ounce last as long as humanly possible so every maybe two/ three months if I include hanging out with friends. So that breaks down to $20 a month for that...and I don't want prescription pain meds.

And no I don't grow my own. If I ever got caught.... I cannot even imagine serving a prison term for weed for my own personal use. But I would like to if I didn't have to worry about the cops/ it being illegal/ jail time/ wasting the time I'm putting into school now....but those things aside I would like to for my own personal use.

If you're that broke, you qualify for government health.

Yes!  If you are having to choose that over food, you need to find some assistance.  Also, no health insurance through school?

I really don't know much about it. I just quit my job that I hated but got health insurance thru because I couldn't keep up with my school work and school matters more than anything in the world. Learning how to not have money/ be broke and ask my dad for money....already looking for a second job even though I know my school work will suffer again.....

No health insurance through school. I hate not having as much money as I used to. I'm talking like a month, its not like ongoing or anything. And I have pride issues..having to get help for something I feel like I should be doing on my own...I'll just say I'm a Cancer and money matters a lot to me.

And shea I didn't mean to make you defend your statements. I sort of understood what you were getting at.

It sounds like you need to do some more investigating into health care options. Save that money that you're spending on an illegal substance! (it is currently illegal, no matter what your stance is)
Have you had your pain diagnosed?
To me, it doesn't sound like spending your money on pot is the best bet. Also, from my experience, you'll probably be able to focus more on school without it.

ummm.....I don't know if other states are affected the same as Oregon....but Medicaid has been closed to all non-senior adults who are not on federal disability for over 4 years. So even if you're poor, you can't get insurance.

I think it should be fully legalized to anyone 18 and older.

Weird, I've heard that doing it before a big test helps people get better test scores.
But I've only heard this and cannot back it up in any way. ::)

No way... maybe for a select few... i used to smoke back in the day and it def didn't help with my concentration, school work, etc... there was no way i could focus on schoolwork/ test taking while being high... that was the last thing i could think about

It's a pride issue if you plan to be on it forever.  It's a practicality issue to be on it during college.

When I was in college I had to have surgery on my neck.  I didn't have insurance.  I signed up for MediCal (California's public health care) and had the surgery.  I didn't feel bad.  I was in college.  My goal was to graduate (I did) and get a job (I did) and now I'll be paying back into the MediCal system through my taxes for the rest of my working life.

I have a friend who got test anxiety and would drink before an exam.  She was smart like kmk and would reliably have 100% on everything while the rest of us were hoping the curve would save our grades.

That's an alcohol example, not a pot example, tho'.

I think the people who use alcohol or marijuana before a test don't use it in the same manner that one would on the weekends. The goal isn't to get high or drunk; the goal is to calm down.

Also I think different people have different reactions to pot. Also strains matter a lot too in terms of potency of the THC content, which would def make a difference of how it effects you.

My minds not a cloud at all after I smoke pot. Some people can function totally fine others can't. I don't know if thats a tolerance thing or what...

And hh: um, I don't know how Illinois works, but I want health coverage...just don't know where to start.

From the (out) pot smokers I know, I have a lot of the same experience as some others on here - it seems to be kind of a de-motivator, and it's used for antisocial behavior (never going anywhere, backing out of commitments, general self-centeredness). I don't know if one could ever really prove that it creates behavior, but I think it exacerbates this type of behavior. One could say the same about meth - it doesn't make someone angry/violent, but it exacerbates whatever they've got in them (and every one has some anger/violence/laziness in them!).

One that that irks me about pot is the sort of pot subculture. Every out pot-smoking person I know has a sort of camaraderie with other pot smokers, always ask if I smoke, and seem disappointed if I don't. It's like a little club, and they want you to join. Which yeah, I think it would be cool if some of my friends also baked vegan goods, but I'm not about to be like "oooh maaan! you should try it. then we could bake together! heheheh. but, you're supportive of it, right?" It's sort of like if I don't like pot/don't approve then I'm not cool with them as a person. And, it's not like I have a huge circle of friends who all smoke - it usually comes from one random acquaintance from class or work.

I guess one could say recreational alcohol use is the same way - I get the feeling that I'm kind of "lame" among my college friends because I don't drink. But, no one cares as much to offer/encourage me.
