You are here

ive sinned?

ok, here goes...

you guys know how ive been craving for some cheese popcorn?  well maybe you havent noticed but nonetheless, i ate some yesterday and i did not tell anyone- not even my kid!  i pretty much inhaled every last kernal and bit of cheese.  it was soooo good.  i didnt cheat with the cheap kind either, it was the good kind from a specialty store and all.  i wish i could say i felt guilty but i really dont.  i really missed popcorn and nothing else have been satisfying for the two very strict years of being vegan.  you know i went from meat eating to veganism and this was my very first relapse.' ok, i am trying to justify my cheese eating so i guess i feel a bit guilty.  i felt like i was doing crack or something cause i bought it, and ravished it in my truck destroying all evidence before returning home.

save me,

veronica

anyone else have a similar experince?  what did you do?  how did you feel/  did you commit the 'sin' again?  did you tell?

First off, its not a sin.  This is not a test nor is anyone judging you.  You can do any number of things about this situation.

Ignore it.  So you ate cheese popcorn, the Vegan Police will not hunt you down and bludgeon you blue.  Honest
Try to prevent it from happening in the future.  Try out Nutritional Yeast on popcorn or vegan parm.
Regret it.  Go ahead, beat yourself up with some carrot greens.
Learn from it.  Why was it so enticing? Did you feel supremely satisfied or let down?  What emotions are driving this?
Admit you fell but pick yourself back up and try again.  Everyone can mess up, lapse or simply do something without thinking.  It happens, find your resolve and carry on with your attempt.

I freely admit that I am not a perfect vegan.  The only perfect vegan is a dead vegan.  We all make our decisions on where to draw the line.  If you have crossed over yours simply try to think of why and how you want it to affect you in the future.

There are no rules, there are no laws, there are no vegan police. What you put in your mouth, or don't, is up to you. If you feel guilty about it, that's one thing, because you might feel you let a principle down. But if you don't feel guilty, don't start because you think you "should." It's a choice.

I say your after the salt. I think there's alot of sodium in omni products. I thought I heard that somewhere.

Sounds to me like you already regret it. Just forget about it.

I also want to say it sounds like the "I  need a treat syndrome". When your bored sometimes you think this way I want a treat but I want an "exciting" treat to counter the boredom to. Now what would be exciting to a vegan some kind of omni food right and it's also the forbidden fruit really.

I don't know if you do think of it as this way but if you do just think of other ways to treat yourself with vegan treats. For example like mine is the yellow cake with chocolate frosting from here. That's heaven on earth to me.

Definitely try a cheeze sauce or mix on your popcorn.  I wonder how a packet of road's end chreese would do sprinkled over the top?  Maybe mix some NY with earth balance?

I hate popcorn, but I do like the Tings vegan cheetos for an occasional treat.

Good luck staying on board.  You've got lots of support here!  :-*

If it were me, I'd think a big "Thanks!" to the cows who made the milk for dat cheese. Y'know, wishing them a better life.  :-X And I'd try not to do it again.

But don't beat yourself up about it, 'cause the truth is: if veganism were EASY, everybody would do it. We all cave now and then, in little ways.  ;)

you should repent. then go hug and kiss some cows, and sacrifice your first born.
;D

forgive yourself.

think about what it is about the popcorn/ cheese that you were craving. when i crave cheese (im still LO, but barely) and thats all i want, often it is a salt thing, or the comforting melty cheesiness... it differs for me...
but if you can figure it out for yourself, (is it the crunch, the salty/ almost spicy of parmasean?) you may be able to head it off in the future.

and beware of tings. they are as addictive as all heck. and leave your teeth a beautiful telltale nutritional yeast yellow stain.  :P

I've been getting a weird craving for cheese lately too....but mine is for pizza.  Haven't acted on it and don't plan too.  I went to the HFS and bought the Amy's vegan spinach pizza with rice cheese.  That worked for me.

Hahahaha, I was going to say that!  :)

Everyone slips up on something at some point.  Just be happy that this was a relatively minor thing... no need to think of it in absolutes.

Maybe the cheese craving is actually your body telling you that you want... salt or calcium... or fat?

For what it's worth I had run out of oat milk this morning (which it is taking me some time to adjust to I can tell you) so sloshed some of my daughter's skimmed dairy milk on my cereal this morning.  I have to say it tasted thoroughly unpleasant (it was well within its sell-by) so I don't think I'll be going there again.  It's funny how your tastes can change.  On the other hand - parmesan is SO hard to give up.  By the way, does anyone have a good recipe for making almond milk - now THAT sounds nice.

I wouldn't want to be the one to try to milk any lactating cat I've ever come across!
