It's not meat

I'm just feeling a bit annoyed today or something. Maybe it's because I've been reading Eating Animals. But it's not mean dammit.
It's A chicken.
It's A cow.
It's A fish.
That's what I want to tell people who eat carcass, you know? It's a creature, a being that used to be alive, not "meat" you ignorant ass!
Ok, rant over. Thanks. ;)
I'm not sure what "fyp" means. I'm still trying to figure out "eta", too.
I wish it were true that in MOST cases animals killed for their flesh got fresh air and sunshine, but it's certainly not true for all (especially not for chickens and turkeys). :'(

This weekend, I'm going to a sort of reunion potluck at the house of an old school friend -- professional program/ master of science degree! -- who emailed me, 'So I remember you don't eat meat... what if I make salmon?' I emailed back, 'Actually I'm just a planteater these days, but don't worry about it -- I'll bring a casserole that can be my main/ a side for you guys, & everyone will be full & happy... make whatever you guys like!'...
She replied that she would just make some chicken, 'a happy medium.' (!!??) ???
A medium between WHAT and WHAT, exactly? what am i missing here... do chickens begin as plants, perhaps like frogs begin as tadpoles? If I plant the proper seeds in my garden, can I grow some? No? then... I just don't get it! OMG, I just never ceased to be surprised by the sheer nonsense of this viewpoint... and this is AN INTELLIGENT PERSON! and a kind person, in daily life, a person I quite like; generous, unselfish, intelligent, gentle (except in food choices)... I just will never understand the 2-legged mammals. They're really odd. (sigh!)
didn't you know?!?
1. cows are the worst, totally animal like, for sure mammals, they might have feelings
2. chickens are in the middle, they are birds, not sure if they're mammals, so we humans can't really relate to them in any way, i don't know too much on the subject, they might feel pain
3. fish aren't even considered animals since you can't hear them scream, vegans eat them on occasion to get protein, especially during pregnancy

Gosh, I feel so foolish now... imagine, all this time, I thought that 'meat' meant the flesh of animals. Thanks for straightening me out...
;D

You're probably more correct than you wish to be. Ironic satire at its best.
seriously... i just randomly thought of the fish thing and maybe that's why people can't see a fish as an animal?!? yes a dolphin or a whale, but a fish... no sound... except bubbles

those damn things don't even blink! how could they possibly feel pain?

i was kiddin'.
i know i know... i was just thinking out loud i guess as my dad has basically stopped eating "meat" but pounds fish... seriously, like it's healthy or he just needs to eat some kind of flesh thing... i swear my step mom cooks up like 5 dishes that are awesome and vegan when i come over for dinner but my dad still needs to heat up some leftover salmon on the 1 FREAKIN NIGHT I COME OVER PER WEEK... i mean, come on dad... 1 freakin meal won't kill you! especially when you aren't even cooking your meals!
To be fair, though, in survival situations, one has to make that distinction between living, feeling creature and dinner.
At the same time, I've noticed that people in rural areas (where the word "vegetarianism" just sounds silly) are much, much closer to their animals, even enjoy them as companions. But then they kill them. Over and over again.
There are a lot of Temple Grandins out there, who farm and have great respect and knowledge of their livestock, yet are perfectly okay with letting the majority of them go off to be killed. It's a mad, mad mad mad mad mad mad world.

Where did this come from?
And do most people here need to make food choices based on 'survival situations'? ???
